OWENSBORO, KY- The Miners were able to break the seven game losing skid today with their game one win over Kentucky Wesleyan. While S&T took the first game by a final score of 4-1, the Panthers of KWC were able to come back and take the second game 2-0.
GAME ONE: MISSOURI S&T-4, KENTUCKY WESLEYAN-1
Looking to break the losing skid, the Miners came into today's doubleheader on the search for a win.
The Panthers got on the board first with an RBI double from Maddie Dawson that sent Jaylin Tidwell home to give them a 1-0 lead. The Miners were able to hold KWC to just that run for the remainder of the game while going on a 4-run rally in the top of the 6
th inning.
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) got the ball rolling for the Miners when she doubled to left field.
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) would drive her home with a double to the right field and tie the game at 1-1.
Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) would bring in two more runs later in the inning after she doubled to left field that brought
Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) and
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) around the bases to make it a 3-1 game.
Keely Morgan (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) would get the final RBI for the Miners when she hit a double and brought Allen home from third. Those four runs would be all the Miners needed to take the 4-1 win.
Avery English (Carterville, IL/Carterville) (1-1) got back in the circle for her first full game of the season to get the win. She went 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.
GAME TWO: MISSOURI S&T-0, KENTUCKY WESLEYAN-2
S&T struggled to get any offense going in the second game, collecting just two hits in the game while moving no baserunners into scoring position.
Kentucky Wesleyan would get back-to-back runs in the 4
th and 5
th innings to take the 2-0 win.
The Panthers kicked things off with Jaclyn Parker reaching base on a fielder's choice that would bring Lexie Mullen across home plate. Mullen would get the sac-hit and the team's RBI in the 5
th inning to make it a 2-0 game.
Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) (2-5) got the start for game two going 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and allowing just four hits.
