ARKADELPHIA, ARK-Looking to finish the weekend strong, the Miner softball team took on Henderson State University in their final game of the Ronnie Hawkins Tournament. Despite hanging with HSU for the majority of the game, a four-run sixth inning from the Reddies would be enough to hand the Miners the 7-3 loss and finish the weekend 2-3.
HSU's Lindsey Williams scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first when Kailey Reese singled to left field and send Williams home.
The Miners would get on the board in the top of the 4
th when
Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) hit her second homerun of the season over the right-center fence to tie the game at 1-1.
Later in the inning,
Gretchen Egly (Joliet, IL/Plainfield Central) reached base on an error by HSU that would allow
Emily Davidson (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) score from third and give S&T a 2-1 lead.
Henderson State added a run in both the 4
th and 5
th innings to give them the 3-2 advantage.
S&T answered in the top of the 6
th inning with a sac-fly from Egly that would allow
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) to score, easily and tie the game, again.
The Reddies would secure their win in the bottom of the 6
th with four unanswered runs that give them the 7-3 win.
Courtney Jackson (Parkville, MO/Park Hill South) and
Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) led the Miners offensively with two hits a piece while
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley),
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township),
Gretchen Egly (Joliet, IL/Plainfield Central), and
Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) all recorded one hit each.
Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) got the start today going 4.0 innings and allowing five hits.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) (1-2) finished the game allowing five hits.
