ARKADELPHIA, ARK-The Miner softball team continued play in the Ronnie Hawkins tournament against Christian Brothers and Southern Arkansas. S&T was able to get past the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers 7-5 but fell to Muleriders of Southern Arkansas

Missouri S&T struck first in the game getting runs from
Courtney Jackson (Parkville, MO/Park Hill South) and
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township).
With Young and Jackson on second and third,
Anna Burke (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) hit an RBI double that would send Jackson home easily.
Hannah Smith (Oconomowoc, WI/Catholic Memorial) would drive Young home on a groundout to short to give the Miners a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Christian Brothers would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Marquisha Sanders hit an RBI single to score Ashley Dyer.
The Miners would tact on two more runs in the 3
rd and another two in the 5
th with a two-run homerun from
Hannah Smith (Oconomowoc, WI/Catholic Memorial) to extend their lead to 6-1.
The Buccaneers offense picked up late in the game when Sanders, Elizabeth Busby, and Maddi Welch all had RBI singles to cut their deficit to 6-5.
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) had the go-ahead run in the top of the 7
th for the Miners on an RBI single from
Gretchen Egly (Joliet, IL/Plainfield Central) to give S&T their 7-5 win.
Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) (1-1) got the start in the circle today going 7.0 innings and allowing 12 hits.
Hannah Smith (Oconomowoc, WI/Catholic Memorial) led the team offensively with three hits and four RBIs while
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) added in two hits and an RBI.
S&T: 0 SOUTHERN ARKANSAS: 10
The Miners took a hard hit in their second game of the day with a 10-0 loss to the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas.
SAU jumped out in the bottom of the 2
nd inning with seven runs. Sarah Pitre got things started with an RBI triple that scored Chelsea Fagen. From there, Pitre, Christian Hill, Hallie Saintignan, Sarah Evans, Rachel Miller, and Lania Otts would cross home plate. They would add three more runs in the bottom of the 6
th inning to end the game at 10-0.
S&T's two hits came from
Courtney Jackson (Parkville, MO/Park Hill South) and
Lauren King (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) in the top of the 1
st and the 6
th innings.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) (1-1) got the start in game two going 5.2 innings and recording one strikeout and seven hits.
