Miners Fall in Four to McKendree

LEBANON, ILL.- The Miner volleyball faced a setback today, falling in three sets to the Bearcats of McKendree University (22-25, 25-17, 18-25, 22-25).

After dropping the opening set of the match, S&T opened the second set with a 5-1 run that was capped off with a block from Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) and Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve). The Miners would extend their lead out to 17-10 after a combination of kills from Reed, O'Boyle, and Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston).

S&T would cruise to an easy set two win when Schlader put down back-to-back kills to give them the 25-17 and tie the match at 1-1.

Set three was a battle for the lead between the teams; it wasn't until midway through when the Bearcats pushed past the Miners with a 5-1 run to make it 14-10.

While S&T traded points with Mckendree, the Bearcats ended up pulling away late in the set after three big blocks and three errors committed by the Miners. The 25-18 set two win gave McKendree a 2-1 match lead.

It came down to the wire in the fourth set.

Looking to force a fifth set, the Miners gave it all they had, going point for point with McKendree.

The Bearcats pushed past the Miners late in the set to take a 23-21 lead.

While Schlader laid down a kill to get back within two, a kill from McKendree's Kelly Voss secured the Bearcats 25-22 set four win and the 3-1 match win.

Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) led the team with 21 kills while hitting .230. Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) and Avery Reed (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) both chipped in 10 kills each while Corinne Stucle led the team with 18 digs.
