Miners face Redhawks in exhibition contest Friday

11/21/2019 2:00:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. -- After recording its first victory of the 2019-20 season on Tuesday evening, Missouri S&T's men's basketball team steps outside of its regular season schedule Friday to face Southeast Missouri State in an exhibition contest in Cape Girardeau, Mo.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Miners and Redhawks, both of whom are 1-2 on the season, are meeting for the fifth straight season and
eighth time in an exhibition contest for the Miners.  S&T is 1-6 in the previous exhibitions, but two of the last three meetings have been decided by seven points or less including last year's 72-69 Southeast victory.

Missouri S&T had four players in double figures in its 77-59 win Tuesday over Lindenwood-Belleville, paced by CJ Hedgepeth's (Evansville, IN/Harrison) 18 points.  Hedgepeth, who hit four of the Miners' nine three-point baskets in the game, leads the Miners in scoring on the season with an average of 13.3 points per game.

S&T has four players averaging in double figures on the young season, as Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) scored 12 points in his first appearance of the year on Tuesday, Chima Odoucha is at 11.3 points per game and Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) is at 10.3 per game after his second straight double figure outing.

Odoucha is also averaging a team-high 10 rebounds per game that also leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Fairless has recorded a team-leading eight assists.

The Redhawks bring a 1-2 record into Friday's contest after losing 74-69 at home Tuesday night to The Citadel.  Southeast allowed 11 three-point baskets in the contest and made only four itself, making none of its seven long-range attempts in the second half.

DQ Nicholas led Southeast with 24 points in Tuesday's game and currently ranks as the Redhawks' second-leading scorer with an average of 12.3 points per contest while shooting 59.1 percent from the field.  The leading scorer is former Miner Chris Harris -- who did not play Tuesday -- with his average of 15.5 points a game as he has scored in double figures in both games he has appeared in.

Quatarrius Wilson is also in double figures at 10.3 points per game and is Southeast's top rebounder with 9.3 per contest, while Alex Caldwell leads the team with nine assists.  The Redhawks are shooting just 29.4 percent from three-point range, a mark that includes a five-of-seven performance by Harris from beyond the arc.
