ROLLA, MO- Fresh off a heartbreaking overtime loss to Rockhurst University, the Miners will begin this weekend in St. Charles against Lindenwood University before kick off their final home stand of the season with Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday afternoon.
After sending their last match into overtime with a 0-0 game, the Miners looked to pull off the biggest upset of the season. But, the offense of Rockhurst University was able to pull out the win in the 98' when Greta Seal found Jillian Leetch in the box and sent a shot past S&T goalkeeper,
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South), for the 1-0 win.
Despite the loss, S&T's Steins produced her best collegiate game with 14 saves on 15 attempts, including eight saves coming in the second half.
Coming into this weekend,
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) and
Peyton Carter (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) lead the team with two goals each while
Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville),
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty),
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North), and
Jess Haller (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) all have one goal each. Steins has spent the majority of time in goal for S&T this season with 613:50 minutes and 38 saves during that time.
About Lindenwood:
The Lions come into Friday's contest 3-6 overall and 2-5 in GLVC play. They broke a three game losing streak after a 1-0 win over Bellarmine this past Sunday.
Less than four minutes into play of the second half, Maggie Miller headed in Lindenwood's only goal. The Lions were able to protect their lead and secured the 1-0 win.
For the season, Miller leads the Lions with three goals while Sammi Gregory and Amanda Orlando each have one goal. Megan Swanson has played in all 812 minutes of action for Lindenwood this season, recording 31 saves.
All-time, the Lions lead the match-up series over the Miners 16-9 with the last S&T win coming more than two decades ago. The last time the two teams met, Lindenwood claimed the 1-0 win when a goal from Olivia Callpari in the 50' of play.
About Missouri-St. Louis:
The Tritons, who will take on the Saints of Maryville before coming to Rolla, come into the weekend 1-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play. They are currently on a six game losing skid that was extended after Indianapolis took a 2-1 win over UMSL this past weekend.
After tying the game at 1-1 in the 89' of play, the Tritons and Greyhounds went into extra time. With less than five minutes remaining in the second overtime, UIndy's Kaylee Zimbelmann got the unassisted golden goal to take the 2-1 win.
Currently, Sarah Lyon leads the team with two goals while Mia Milazzo, Rose Crabtree, Emily Hanewinkel, and Imogen Bennett all have one goal apiece. Amber Hayes has been the only goalkeeper for the Tritons this season recording 841 minutes in goal while saving 54 shots.
Historically, the Miners have struggled against the Tritons, going 2-3 in their last five match-ups and 9-29-1 all-time. Last season when the two teams met, UMSL scored three goals in the first half of the match to gain an early lead. They were able to hold the Miners offense silent the rest of the game ag claimed the win.
