Miners travel to Lindenwood before opening final homestand

10/9/2019 10:00:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – After getting a positive result in three of its four games on a recent homestand, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team heads to the road for a night to continue its Great Lakes Valley Conference slate before beginning its final stretch of home games Sunday.

The Miners will face GLVC newcomer Lindenwood Friday evening in St. Charles, Mo., at 7:30 p.m. before returning to campus to begin a three-game homestand Sunday when they take on Missouri-St. Louis in a 2:30 p.m. contest at the S&T Soccer Field.

Missouri S&T got a win and a pair of ties in the first three games of a four-game stretch at home before it fell 3-2 Sunday to Rockhurst.  The Miners will take a 3-4-2 overall record and 2-3-2 GLVC mark into Friday's game as they look to keep themselves in the mix in the conference playoff race.

Bertram Gjelfort (Frederiksberg, Denmark/Falkonergaarden), who scored the first of S&T's two goals in Sunday's contest, leads the Miners with four goals on the season and is tied for eighth in the GLVC in that department.  Shane Cairns (North Olmstead, OH/North Olmstead) and Trey Haman (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University HS) have two goals apiece for S&T, which has had 11 players score goals this season.

Nick Posey (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) has started all nine games in goal for S&T and has two shutouts to go along with a 1.92 goals against average.

ABOUT LINDENWOOD: The Lions, who will enter Friday's game with identical records as the Miners (3-4-2, 2-3-2 GLVC), have dropped three of their last four contests following a 3-1 loss Sunday at Bellarmine.  Lindenwood did pick up a 1-0 win over Indianapolis to open play last weekend, which is the Lions' only win in their last six outings.

Luke McBeth ranks third in the GLVC with his team-high six goals and 15 points on the season.  Thomas Hutcheson is the only other Lindenwood player with more than one goal as he has hit the net twice this year.  Goalkeeper Tim Licht has a 1.48 goals against average and 30 saves in nine contests.

ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS: The Tritons enter the week at 2-8 overall and are in the midst of a seven-game losing streak that began at the start of the GLVC schedule.  UMSL has been shut out in the last six of those losses, including Sunday's 5-0 loss at Indianapolis.

UMSL scored nine goals in its first four games of the year – three of them coming from Magnus Anderson and two apiece from Garrett Bass and Bradley Fritsche – but has allowed 19 goals during the course of the last seven games.  Anton Muhkin and Jordan Hurt have split time in goal for the Tritons, who have a team goals against average of 3.10 for the season.
