Durk Drops 25 Points in Miners Loss to Knights

LOUISVILLE, KY-Looking for a win after Thursday's loss to Southern Indiana, the Miner's traveled to Louisville, Ky. to take on the Knights of Bellarmine University. Despite an amazing 4thquarter comeback, S&T fell just short to Bellarmine 85-75. They now fall to 7-9 overall and 3-6 in GLVC play.

The Knights took a commanding lead to start the game, getting up 14-2 just four minutes into the opening quarter. Their 61% shooting to open the game proved to be too much for the Miners.

After a lay-up from Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) put the Miners down by nine with 4:08 left, Bellarmine went on a 9-4 run to take a 26-12 lead.

Things did not get much better in the second quarter; Bellarmine outscored S&T 24-14 in the second part of the half and took a 50-24 lead heading into the break.

Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) went off in the second half, scoring 19 of her game-high 25 points to get the Miners back within single digits.

S&T slowly began chipping away at the Knights' lead in the 4thquarter with an 11-0 run to start the final quarter.

Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay), who led all players with 11 rebounds, had back-to-back baskets to start the run. On the very next possession, she found Kristen Steins open under the basket for the easy lay-up. Durk and Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) added in consecutive jumpers to get the Miners within 14 of the Knights.

With 4:52 left in the game, Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) sank one of her five three-pointers of the day to cut the Miner's deficit to nine. That would be the closest S&T would get to Bellarmine the rest of the game as the Knights went on to win 85-75.

Marta Durk's (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) 25-point performance today marks her career best in scoring and puts her as the leader for most points scored in a game for this season for the Miners.

Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) picked up her 5thdouble-double this season with 14 points and a game high 11 rebounds while also recording four blocks.

As a team, the Miners finished the game shooting 42.6% from the field and 29.4% from three-point range. They dished out 15 assists while forcing 19 Bellarmine turnovers.
