Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Claire Johnson, Assistant Sports Information Director

Bulldog Offense Too Much for Miners to Stop

ROLLA, MO- The Miner women's basketball gave it all they had against the Bulldogs of Truman State. Despite keeping it close the entire game and a late surge by S&T's offense, they were not able to hold on for the win and fell 74-65.

It was back and forth to start the game; both teams trading baskets for the first four minutes of the game. A jumper by Truman's Rachel Edmundson with 6:07 left in the opening quarter would start a 7-0 run to give the Bulldogs a quick 18-9 lead.

The Miner's offense found their rhythm just before the end of the first quarter. Baskets from Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern), Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown), and Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) in the last two minutes of the quarter put S&T down by one going into the second stanza.

S&T did not make it easy for the Bulldogs in the second quarter. The Miners saw their first lead of the game with 5:15 left in the half on a Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) three-pointer. Truman State would make a run to end the half and 41-35 going into the break
.
The Miners and Bulldogs kept it close in the third quarter, both relying on their defenses to keep the other's offense at bay.

Truman State took their 52-48 lead into the final 10 minutes after a fast-break three-pointer from Brooke Bailey.

The Miners would never see the lead again. Truman extended their lead to as much as 11 in the fourth quarter.
Free-throws from Bailey and Katie Jaseckas would ice the game and secure Truman's 74-65 win.

Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) and Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) led the Miners with 14 points apiece tonight while Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) chipped in 12 and Mykala Baylor (South Bend, Ind./Clay) added in 10. Baylor kept her league leading average up with three blocked shots while Davis, Durk, and Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) all dished out four assists.
As a team, the Miner's finished the game shooting 42.4% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line. They forced 13 Bulldog turnovers and handed out 15 assists.
