Miners host Greyhounds, Flyers to begin final homestand of year

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball team opens a three-game homestand this week – the final three home games on the schedule this season – beginning on Thursday when the Miners take on Indianapolis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup at Billy Key Court.

Thursday's 7:30 p.m. contest will be followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup against Lewis at 3 p.m.  S&T closes the homestand and home schedule Feb. 22 against McKendree.

The Miners come into Thursday's game seeking their first win in conference play, as they lost their only contest last week by a count of 82-65 at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday.  Despite getting the seventh double-double of the season from Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays) and shooting 50 percent from the field in the second half, the Miners were unable to slow down the Tritons in the second half as UMSL shot 69.6 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.

Despite being held scoreless on Saturday, Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) continues to lead the Miners in scoring with his average of 13.9 points per game, while Louiserre is averaging 13.8 per game and is S&T's top rebounder with 8.1 per game after hauling in 13 Saturday.  Sebastian Ferenc (Zgierz, Poland/) is scoring 12.1 points per contest with 7.4 rebounds and a team-high 22 blocked shots, while Allante Pickens (Chicago, IL/Curie) and Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) are also in double figures at 10.9 and 10.7 points per game, respectively.

S&T has three players with at least 40 three-pointers this season – Harris with 49, Pickens with 46 and Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) with 44.  Pickens is shooting 43 percent from three-point range, while Harris and Sarajlic are both over the 38 percent mark from long range.

ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS: The Greyhounds -- who were idle on Saturday – have won their last three games and bring marks of 15-7 overall and 8-5 in the GLVC.  UIndy rallied for a 77-70 overtime win last Thursday at Missouri-St. Louis, getting 22 points from Jesse Kempson as he scored 13 of those 22 points after the halftime break.

Kempson, who also had 14 rebounds in that game and leads the Greyhounds in that category with 5.9 per game, is one of four double figure scorers for UIndy on the season with his average of 12.8 point per game.  The top scorer for the Greyhounds is Tate Hall with his mark of 14.8 points per game, as he is shooting 55.7 percent from the field on the season for the 12th-best mark in the GLVC.

The other double figure scorers for UIndy are Ajay Lawton with an average of 14.8 points per contest and Eric Davidson, who is scoring 13 points a game.  Lawton is the team leader in assists with 76, while Davidson is one of the league's top three-point shooters, having made a team-high 54 at a clip of 46.6 percent.

UIndy is shooting 49.2 percent from the field as a team, the third-best mark in the conference and has the GLVC's second-best mark from three-point range at 42.7 percent.  Besides Davidson, Hall is shooting 44.1 percent from beyond the arc and reserve Trevor Lakes is fourth in the league from three-point land at just under 50 percent.

ABOUT LEWIS:  The Flyers, who like the Miners have battled through some injury issues throughout the 2017-18 season, defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 71-57 Saturday to move to 12-13 overall and 7-8 in the GLVC.   But despite the Flyers' current last place standing in the GLVC East Division, at this time Lewis would be among the eight teams participating in the GLVC Tournament based on the league's point rating system determining the playoff participants.

Lewis has two of the GLVC's top nine scorers in Cristen Wilson, who is seventh in the league with a team-high average of 16.9 points per game and Delaney Blaylock, who ranks ninth with his mark of 16.6 points per game.  Wilson shot up the scoring charts with a recent run of 88 points over a three-game span, including a career-high 38 in a key win over William Jewell.

Wilson is shooting 54.3 percent from the field this season and has connected on 42.6 percent of his three-point attempts, while also leading the Flyers and ranking fifth in the GLVC with 8.7 rebounds per game.  Meanwhile, Blaylock has hit 54 treys this year at a clip of 41 percent and is shooting 46.7 percent overall.

Adam Pischke, who has led the Flyers in scoring in their last two games – including an overtime loss to GLVC Central leader Maryville – is also in double figures in the scoring department at 11.5 points a game and leads the team with 57 assists.  The Flyers rank fifth in the GLVC in three-point shooting at 40.9 percent on the season.
