ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T got its 2018-19 season started on the right note with a 111-65 win Saturday over Blackburn and now looks to win its second straight contest Tuesday night when it hosts Central Christian at Gibson Arena.
Thanks to four players in double figures, the Miners dispatched the Beavers on Saturday as they shot 54.3 percent from the field. As a result, S&T posted its highest point total in a game in over four years and its third-most ever in a season opener.
S&T led 47-22 at halftime, then outscored Blackburn 64-43 after the intermission as all 13 Miners scored in the game.
Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half to lead the Miners' offensive attack, while
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays) and freshman
Kyle Bushman (Mount Vernon, MO/Mount Vernon) had 11 points apiece and
Yahmir Muhammad (Rockford, IL/Auburn) had 10 in his S&T debut.
The Miners also forced 20 turnovers in the contest and
Juwan Miller (Kitchener, Ont./Huron Heights), who along with
Jalen Myers (Shorewood, IL/Minooka) returned to the lineup after missing the entire 2017-18 season due to injuries, had five steals.
Central Christian already has five games under its belt this season and has won two of them, capturing wins over St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Calvary. The Saints have lost their last two games, the latest an 80-65 setback Friday at the hands of MacMurray.
Calief Gregg had 25 points on Friday and has averaged 20 points over the Saints' last two games, while Ian Denton has averaged 11.5 points in that span.
Emanuel Harris and Trey Black also reached double figures in a loss last Tuesday to Kansas Christian.
Tuesday's game will be the second for S&T in its season-opening three-game homestand, as the Miners will also host Missouri Western on Saturday at 3 p.m. on Community Appreciation Day at Gibson Arena. Saturday's will also mark the dedication of the renovated arena during halftime of that game.
