ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T captured eight of the 11 events Friday night and had 20 top-three finishes as it defeated fourth-ranked Delta State 128-77 at the S&T Pool.
The Miners, ranked 15
th in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America pre-season rankings, were paced by two winning performances by
Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS), as he won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:35.64 and later captured first in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:40.45.
S&T's other winning performances came from
Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan) in the 200-freestyle in 1:42.39,
Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.15 seconds,
Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.65,
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.74 seconds and
Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:06.96.
The Miners capped the night by winning the 400-yard freestyle behind the team of McPherson, Taske,
Marco Flores (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/SERAN Private Bilingual School) and Meyer, who won by just over a second in 3:06.91.
Second place showings were posted by Taske in the 1,000-freeesyle inn 9:41.04, Meyer in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.17, Flores in the 50-freestyle in 21.67 seconds and
Ethan Shih (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.53 and 200-backstroke in 1:55.19.
S&T finished second in the 400-yard medley relay as the team of
Ethan Shih (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista), Josh Umrysh,
Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) and
Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North) recorded a time of 3:27.30.
Huffman recorded a third place finish in the 200-IM in 1:58.82, as did McPherson in the 200-butterfly in 1:57.53,
Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) in the 100-freestyle in 47.76 seconds, Dachroeden in the 200-backstroke in 1:55.74 and
Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) in the 500-freestyle in 4:53.90.
The Miners will compete against on Saturday in a quadrangular meet in Lebanon, Ill., where they will face off with McKendree, Saint Louis and Maryville. That meet gets underway at noon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
