ROLLA, Mo. -- After wrapping up its non-conference schedule on Sunday, Missouri S&T will head into Great Lakes Valley Conference play for good beginning on Thursday when the Miners head to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman State.
The Miners will face the Bulldogs in a 7:30 p.m. contest in Pershing Arena before coming back to Rolla for a 3 p.m. matchup Saturday against Wisconsin-Parkside at Billy Key Court. Missouri S&T enters the week with a 2-8 record and is looking for its first conference win of the season.
Missouri S&T comes into the week looking to snap a two-game skid after dropping a 96-81 decision Sunday to Arkansas Tech, despite getting 23 points from
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) and 17 from
Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy). The Miners were hurt by Arkansas Tech's long-range shooting, as the Wonder Boys connected 15 times from beyond the arc.
Harris leads the Miners in scoring with an average of 15.8 points per game, which ranks 10
th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and is one of six Miners averaging in double figures heading into Thursday's contest. Scott is averaging 12.4 points per game, while
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays),
Allante Pickens (Chicago, IL/Curie),
Sebastian Ferenc (Zgierz, Poland/) and
Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) are all scoring between 11 and 12 points per contest.
Ferenc, Sarajlic and Louiserre, who recorded his first career double-double Sunday, are all among the top 14 in the GLVC in rebounding, led by Ferenc's 8.7 per game.
ABOUT TRUMAN STATE: The Bulldogs have had an up-and-down season, but enter Thursday's game coming off a 107-52 win over Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday to improve to 6-5 on the year; Truman is 1-1 in the GLVC.
Zach Fischer, who led five Bulldogs in double figures Saturday with 23 points, leads his team with an average of 18.6 points per game. Fischer is also the Bulldogs' top rebounder with 10.5 per game -- making him one of three players in the GLVC who is averaging a double-double -- and is third in the conference in field goal percentage at 69.8 percent after going 10-of-11 in the Iowa Wesleyan contest.
Truman is averaging 10.4 three-point baskets per game, the third-best mark in the league, behind 25 from Jake Velky and 21 apiece from Jack Green and Nathan Messer. Velky is averaging 15.1 points per game and has a team-high 32 assists, while Brodrick Thomas is scoring 13.5 points a game.
Green and Messer are also scoring in double figures, with Green at 12.5 points per outing while shooting 43.8 percent from three-point range and Messer at 10 points per game. The Bulldogs have averaged 83.4 points over their first 11 games of the campaign.
ABOUT WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE: The Rangers come into the week with a 2-10 overall record and 0-2 mark in the GLVC and have lost both of their post-Christmas contests, the latest an 80-66 setback to 10
th-ranked Ferris State on Saturday. UW-Parkside trailed by just one at the half, but was outscored 47-34 in the final 20 minutes despite shooting 65 percent from the field during that stretch.
Jameel Moore, who led the Rangers with 15 points Saturday, heads the Rangers with an average of 14.3 points per game and also leads his team in assists with 36, while Adam Bonk -- who is also scoring in double figures with his mark of 12 points per contest -- has connected on 54.1 percent of his three-point attempts, the second-best mark in the GLVC. Bonk ranks third in the conference with his 33 successful three-point attempts.
The Rangers have made 41.7 percent of their three-point shots this season and are one of five teams in the GLVC that is shooting at least 40 percent from long range.
Joe Borcia leads UW-Parkside with an average of 5.5 rebounds per game, but the Rangers have been outrebounded by nearly eight boards per game on the year and opposing teams have shot 48.5 percent from the field against them.
The Rangers will host McKendree Thursday before taking on the Miners Saturday afternoon.
