Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miners picked up its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win sweeping Maryville (25-12, 25-23, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon in Rolla. The Miners (5-8, 1-3 GLVC) had a balanced offensive effort led by
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) to earn the victory.
S&T led from start to finish in the opening set hitting .375 while holding the Saints (1-11, 1-3 GLVC) to a negative .045 hitting percentage in the stanza.
Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) and
Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) had three kills each in the frame while
Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) and
Kyley Thompson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) added two apiece.
The second set featured 10 ties and had four lead changes in it. The set was tied at 17 when the Miners took advantage of three straight Maryville errors to regain the lead. The Saints bounced back scoring six of the next nine points to tie the stanza at 23. S&T proceeded to win the set getting back to back kills from Dykes and Schlader to head into the intermission with the 25-23 win and commanding 2-0 lead.
The third set went along the same line as the second with seven ties and four lead changes. Maryville held a 21-20 lead after a kill from Ashley Selman but the Miners responded once again scoring five of the last six points to complete the sweep. Schlader had three kills in that match deciding run and Talley ended the match with a service ace.
S&T finished the contest with an attack percentage of .237 recording 43 kills against 16 errors in 114 chances. Schlader finished with a match-high 10 kills while Friedlund added seven and Dykes and Thompson finished with two each.
Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) had a match-high 17 assists while
Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) added 12 digs.
The Saints were held to a .127 hitting percentage registering 30 kills against 17 errors in 102 total attacks. Allison Lakin and Cassidy Arndt had nine kills each to lead Maryville. Michelle Escue handed out 16 assists while Arndt also had a match high 13 digs.
The Miners conclude their three match homestand on Wednesday hosting Truman State at 7 p.m.
