Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball squad will play its final home games of the season hosting McKendree and Illinois Springfield this Sunday and Monday. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday but have been pushed back a day due to rain. The Lady Miners and Bearcats will square off at 12 p.m. on Sunday and Monday's doubleheader with the Prairie Stars starts at 1 p.m.
S&T (18-27, 10-12 GLVC) looks to snap a three-game losing streak and keep its conference tournament hopes alive when it plays the Bearcats. The Lady Miners currently sit a game out of the final playoff berth but have a chance to move up in the standings with both teams in front of them in the standings.
After the conclusion of Sunday's doubleheader, S&T will honor its five seniors:
Kelly Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth, Mo./St. Elizabeth),
Ashley Hill (Centralia, Mo./Centralia),
Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville),
Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ) and
Victoria Culbertson (Nevada, Mo./Nevada).
S&T has struggled at the plate in their last 12 games hitting just .199 but have gotten a spark from
Olivia Young (Milstadt, Ill./Belleville Township) who is hitting .444 with three doubles and four RBIs.
Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) leads the team with a .364 batting average while Fedorchak has hit a team-high seven home runs and driven in a team best 27 runs.
Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville) continues to lead the way in the circle with a 9-13 mark but has an earned run average of 2.64. In her last eight appearances she is 3-5 with a 1.21 ERA with 34 strikeouts against nine walks in 58 innings pitched.
McKendree enters Sunday's doubleheader with a record of 27-18, 13-9 GLVC and has won six of its last eight overall. The Bearcats went 3-1 last weekend splitting their doubleheader against Indianapolis and then swept Saint Joseph's. McKendree was ranked eighth in the first NCAA-II Midwest Regional Rankings released on Wednesday afternoon.
Jamie Doggendorf leads the Bearcat attack hitting .355 and has stolen 34 bases in 38 attempts. Rachel Hastings and Brooke Gajewski are tied for the team lead in home runs with seven while Hastings has driven in a team-high 40 runs.
Holly Magre leads McKendree in the circle with a 13-7 mark and has an ERA of 2.26 while Kylee Silliman is 11-6 with a 3.29 earned run average. Magre has struck out 119 hitters in her 117.2 innings pitched and is holding opponents to a .234 batting average.
Illinois Springfield enters Sunday's doubleheader at Drury with a record of 25-21 and is 11-11 in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars have won five in a row after sweeping past Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis this past weekend. UIS was ranked 10
th in the first NCAA-II Midwest Regional Rankings released on Wednesday afternoon.
The Prairie Stars attack is led by Amanda Gosbeth who's hitting .346 and is second on the team with 25 RBIs. Morgan Edwards leads the Stars with five home runs and 26 RBIs and has a .314 average. Gosbeth, Erin Stroup and Ali Haesele have hit four home runs each.
Haesele leads UIS in the circle with a 14-6 mark and a 2.28 ERA. She has tossed 12 complete games and has three shutouts on the season. She has struck out 119 batters in 129 innings pitched and is holding the opposition to a .228 batting average.
