Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball squad had its three-game winning streak snapped dropping both games of its doubleheader to Truman State at the S&T Softball Field on Sunday afternoon. The losses drop S&T to 14-19 overall and 6-6 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Game 1 – Truman State 2 Lady Miners 1
The Bulldogs (24-14, 7-5) struck first with a run four batters into the game. Christa Reisinger led off with a double to left, went to third on a groundout to first and scored on Lex Van Nostrand's two out double to left center.
The Lady Miners had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the first loading the bases with one out but were unable to get the clutch hit. S&T tied the game in the fifth as
Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville) walked to lead off the inning and then stole second. With one out,
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) singled through the right side of the infield to score English just ahead of the throw. With two outs, Klein stole second but was left there when Kelly
Heckemeyer had a hit taken away on a great running catch by the right fielder towards the line.
Truman regained the lead in the top of the sixth. Van Nostrand led off the inning with a double to left, just off the glove of
Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North), who tried to make a diving grab. Van Nostrand moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Jamie Fowle. She scored on a two out single off the bat of Ashley Murphy who dropped one in just inside the left field line.
The Lady Miners had a chance to tie the game in the seventh getting back-to-back two out singles from Klein and Weiss but they were left stranded.
S&T finished the opener with six hits and was led by Klein with three while Weiss added two and Fedorchak had one. English suffered the tough luck loss allowing two runs, on nine hits with five strikeouts in the complete game effort.
Game 2 – Truman State 20 Lady Miners 1
The Bulldogs had the bats going in the second game pounding out 22 hits in the contest. They scored in each of the first four innings, they hit four home runs including a pair of grand slams.
The Lady Miners scored their run in the first inning on a RBI single off the bat of Fedorchak which scored Klein.
Klein, Fedorchak, Hamann and
Rachel Aiardo (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) had a hit each in the second game.
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) suffered the loss to fall to 7-9.
S&T concludes its 10-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon hosting Drury in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The Panthers split with Quincy on Sunday afternoon winning the opener 2-0 and falling 2-1 in the nightcap.
