Liberty, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball squad rallied for a split in its doubleheader at William Jewell on Saturday afternoon at the Spratt Sports Complex in Liberty, Mo. Game 2 – Lady Miners 10, William Jewell 3
The Cardinals (15-17, 7-7 GLVC) scored first in game two with a run two batters into the game. Maddie Greenstreet walked on four pitches to start the game then Madi Giles hit a 1-1 pitch off the fence in center scoring Greenstreet from first. Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) avoided further damage getting back-to-back popouts to third and a ground out to second to end the frame.

The Lady Miners tied the game in the second. Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) and Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) led the inning off with back-to-back singles. With one out, Ashley Rausch (Washington, Iowa/Washington) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a popup to the pitcher, Rachel Aiardo (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) hit a 3-2 pitch inside the left field line scoring Fedorchak. Hamann was knocked down on the play going from second to third but was only granted third on the obstruction call. Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) followed hitting a ball hard to right but it stayed in the air long enough for Lindsay Glynn to make the catch and end the inning.

S&T grabbed the lead in the third as Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) led off the inning with an infield single to third then stole second and third. With two outs, Hamann hit a slow roller to first that Sydne Brashears couldn't handle allowing Hamann to reach and score Weiss. The Lady Miners added to their lead in the fifth. Once again it was Weiss who ignited the rally. She led off the inning with a single and with one out stole second. Fedorchak  followed with a single to center to put runners on the corner. Hamann followed that up with a single to right to score Weiss and make it 3-1. With two outs, Ashley Rausch (Washington, Iowa/Washington) walked to load the bases and then Olivia Young (Milstadt, Ill./Belleville Township), pinch-hitting for Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ), walked on four pitches to bring home Hannah Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Catholic Memorial), running for Fedorchak, with the second run of the inning. After a pitching change, Gretchen Egly (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central), hitting for Aiardo, grounded into a force out back to the pitcher.

William Jewell got a run back in the home half of the fifth. Glynn led off the inning with an infield single back to Viets and moved to second on a sacrifice from Greenstreet. Glynn scored on Brooke Bernard's single down the right field line cutting the lead in half.

S&T extended its lead in the sixth. With two outs, Kelly Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth, Mo./St. Elizabeth) walked on a 3-2 pitch and then Fedorchak hit a two-run homer to center for her sixth roundtripper of the season. The Lady Miners tacked on four more insurance runs in the seventh. Jacey Allen (Roanoke, Texas/Byron Nelson) led off the inning with a walk. With one out, Badalamenti hit a two-run homer down the left field line to make it 8-2. Aiardo and Klein followed with singles and then Weiss was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Heckemeyer worked a 13-pitch walk to score Aiardo and then Klein scored on a wild pitch with two outs.

The Cardinals got their final tally in the home half of the seventh on Kelsey Morgan's RBI single to left center scoring Greenstreet.

S&T finished with 11 hits in the nightcap led by Fedorchak with three while Weiss, Hamann and Aiardo had two each. Viets improved to 8-9 allowing three runs on 10 hits in the complete game effort. She struck out two but walked four.

Game 1 – William Jewell 3, Lady Miners 1
William Jewell broke on top with a run in the second in the opener. Emily Hoover led off the inning with a single to center and went to third on Morgan's single to right. Hoover and Morgan then executed a double steal to plate the first run of the game. Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville) got the next two batters to ground out to Weiss but hit Gabby Brown and then an error allowed Glynn to reach to load the bases. English then got Greenstreet to fly out to Aiardo to end the inning.

The Lady Miners had their chances to tie the game getting the tying run in scoring position in each of the next three innings but were unable to get a key hit.

The Cardinals added some insurance on a two-run single by Hoover in the home half of the fifth.

S&T had another chance to get on the board in the sixth putting runners at second and third but Hannah Smith (Oconomowoc, Wis./Catholic Memorial) flied out to end the threat. The Lady Miners got on the board in the seventh on Klein's single to right scoring Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South), running for Rausch, from second. S&T still had the tying runs on base but Weiss struck out and Heckemeyer grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
