Rosemont, Ill. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners held a 1-0 lead over Wayne State through three innings but a seven run fourth inning shifted the tide in S&T's 15-4 loss in six innings to the Warriors on Friday evening at The Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont, Ill.
Hannah Franceschini (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) paced the Lady Miner (4-7) attack with three hits while
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) drove in a pair of runs.
S&T broke on top in the home half of the first. With one out, Klein reached on an error and advanced to a second. She moved to third on a groundout by
Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) and scored on
Kelly Heckemeyer (St. Elizabeth, Mo./St. Elizabeth)'s single up the middle.
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) worked out of trouble in each of the first two innings but had set down five in a row until Wayne State's (4-3) bats got going with one out in the fourth. The Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning scoring seven runs on eight hits.
The Lady Miners got a run back in the home half of the fourth on a ground-rule double off the bat of
Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) scoring
Ashley Rausch (Washington, Iowa/Washington) to cut the margin to 7-2.
The Warriors batted around again in the sixth scoring eight runs on eight hits to extend their lead.
S&T got two of those back in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded single by Klein to cap the scoring.
The Lady Miners finished the game with seven hits led by Franceschini. Weiss, Klein, Heckemeyer and
Lauren King (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North) had a hit each. Viets suffered the loss to fall to 2-3 giving up 10 runs on 11 hits with six walks.
S&T is back in action on Saturday afternoon taking on Walsh at 3:30 p.m. and Winona State at 8 p.m.
