ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball will close out its 2017-18 non-conference schedule on the final day of the 2017 calendar year with a big challenge, as it plays host to Arkansas Tech Sunday at Billy Key Court. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
The Miners enter Sunday's contest with a 2-7 record after dropping their final game prior to Christmas and will look to snap a six-game Arkansas Tech winning streak this weekend, as the Wonder Boys of the Great American Conference come into the game at 8-1 on the year.
S&T got off to a great start in its most recent game on Dec. 18, jumping out to an 11-0 lead to begin the contest against Harris-Stowe, but the Hornets dominated the middle segment of the game and held on for a 96-87 win over the Miners.
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays) scored 19 of his team-high 24 points in the first half of that game, while
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) finished the game with 22 points that included 17 in the second half.
Harris leads the Miners in scoring with an average of 15 points per game, which ranks 12
th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and is one of six Miners averaging in double figures heading into Sunday's contest.
Sebastian Ferenc (Zgierz, Poland/) and
Allante Pickens (Chicago, IL/Curie) are each scoring 12.5 points per game, while Louiserre has raised his average to 12.1 per outing thanks to a pair of 24-point performances in the month of December.
Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) is averaging 11.7 points a game and
Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville), the Miners' top three-point shooter, is scoring 11.3 per game. Sarajlic has connected a team-high 22 times from three-point range and has made 41.5 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
The Miners have three players – Ferenc, Sarajlic and Louiserre – all ranked among the top 15 in the GLVC in rebounding, led by Ferenc's 8.6 per game.
ABOUT ARKANSAS TECH: The Wonder Boys resume their second half schedule this weekend sporting an 8-1 record, with their only loss coming in overtime at East Central. Arkansas Tech has won six in a row since suffering that loss on Nov. 16, the most recent a 100-88 win at Northeastern State on Dec. 19.
Tech is ninth among NCAA Division II teams in scoring coming out of the break with its average of 91.7 points per game and scored at least 84 points in all nine of its contests, Much of the offensive damage has been done from three-point range, where Tech has hit 12.4 three-point shots per game -- fifth-most in Division II -- at a rate of 36.2 percent.
R.J. Glasper leads the Wonder Boys in scoring with an average of 16.6 points per game as one of six double figure scorers for Tech. Harris Brown has averaged 15.3 points a game, while Trevin Woods, a transfer from LIU Brooklyn, has scored 11.8 per game and is also the team's top rebounder with 6.8 a contest.
Mason Cline is the team's top three-point shooter as he has a team-high 27 treys and has hit 47.4 percent of his tries from beyond the arc; he is one of five Wonder Boys with at least 10 made three-point shots this season.
