ROLLA, Mo. – Following a victory in the first game of its three-game homestand, Missouri S&T's men's basketball will seek to win back-to-back contests for the first time this season as it hosts Harris-Stowe in a Monday matinee at Billy Key Court at 11 a.m.
Monday's game will be the last for the Miners prior to the NCAA Division II winter break and will be one where the Miners are looking for their second straight win after posting their most impressive performance of the season in Saturday's 86-58 win over William Woods.
Missouri S&T improved to 2-6 with Saturday's win and will take on a Hornet team that is 5-4 heading into two games later this week prior to Monday's matchup.
In Saturday's win, the Miners shot a season-high 56.1 percent from the field, which included a 72.4 showing in the first half that also saw S&T make nine-of-14 from three-point range. The Miners connected a season-high 12 times overall from long range as they recorded their highest scoring game of the season.
Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) had a career-high 24 points in the win and is among six Miners averaging in double figures heading into Monday's contest.
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) continues to lead the way in scoring with an average of 14.1 points per game – good for 15
th in the GLVC – while
Sebastian Ferenc (Zgierz, Poland/) is averaging 12.9 points a game and Scott is at 12.8 a game following his performance against William Woods.
S&T is also getting 12.3 points per game from
Allante Pickens (Chicago, IL/Curie), 11.5 a game from
Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and 10.6 points per contest from
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays).
Ferenc and Sarajlic are among the top eight rebounders in the GLVC, with Ferenc pulling down a team-high 9.3 a game and Sarajlic is averaging 8.3 boards, while Harris leads the GLVC with 19 steals. Louiserre, meanwhile, ranks seventh in the conference in free throw percentage at 87 percent and Sarajlic is two spots behind him at 85 percent.
ABOUT HARRIS-STOWE: The Hornets upended 18
th-ranked (NAIA) and previously unbeaten Missouri Baptist in overtime in their most recent outing and enter a Thursday home game with Lindenwood-Belleville at 5-4 on the season. Harris-Stowe will also play Friday at Maryville before coming to Rolla for the Monday contest.
Deandre Clark leads the Hornets in scoring with an average of 13.6 points per game and Dwane Miner, who had a big game in the win over Missouri Baptist, is scoring 12.1 per contest. Miner had a team-high 18 points and hit four three-point baskets in that victory and is shooting 43.9 percent from three-point range on the season while also serving as a defensive presence with 16 blocked shots.
Clark and Miner have combined to make 39 of the Hornets' 71 three-point baskets this season.
Altez Davis leads Harris-Stowe with an average of 6.8 rebounds per game and also has 21 blocked shots, while Corey Wells, Jr., has a team-high 23 assists. The Hornets have averaged 5.7 blocked shots per game over their first nine contests.
