ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T's men's basketball team will look to get into the win column for the first time in the 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon when it hosts Robert Morris-Peoria at Billy Key Court. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
The Miners are 0-2 as they enter Saturday's contest, dropping their season opener last Saturday to Blackburn and then a decision Tuesday night at Lincoln. Due to a rash of early season injuries, Missouri S&T has had to play both games with only seven players in uniform, but could have more back into the mix this weekend as it entertains an Eagle squad also looking to win for the first time.
Freshman
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy), who had 24 points in his Miner debut last week, leads S&T with an average of 16.5 points per contest. The Miners have four players averaging in double figures in the early going, including
Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) at 13.5 points per game and
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays) at 10 points a contest.
The fourth double figure scorer is Allante Pickens, who scored 15 points in last week's game with Blackburn.
Sarajlic had a double-double in the Blackburn contest and is pulling down a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game, while
Sebastian Ferenc (Zgierz, Poland/) had seven rebounds in his S&T debut on Tuesday at Lincoln. Meanwhile, Harris leads the Miners with six assists and five steals.
The Miners have averaged eight three-point baskets in their first two contests, but have connected on just 31.4 percent of their long-range tries thus far.
ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS-PEORIA: The Eagles have opened their year with a 102-75 loss to Lake Land and a 72-65 loss to Andrews; the Eagles are scheduled to play Friday at Illinois Springfield. Travis Morgan was the leading scorer for RMU-Peoria in the contest with Lake Land with 19 points, while Darnell Edmond and Reggie Davis were also in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Miners defeated the Eagles 103-49 last season here at Billy Key Court behind 21 points from
Jalen Myers (Shorewood, IL/Minooka). Today's game is the second meeting between the teams.
