ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T had four players named today to the College Sports Information Directors of America's all-district football team for NCAA Division II Super Region 3. The four selected will be eligible for Academic All-America honors that will be announced in December.
Three members of S&T's defense were named to the squad a day after each of them earned all-conference honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Bret Curtis (Lombard, IL/Glenbard South), a third-team Academic All-America selection in 2016, was named again to the all-district squad along with two others that were all-district selections a year ago in linebacker
Landon Compton (Lamar, MO/Lamar) and safety
Bo Brooks (Canutillo, TX/Canutillo).
The fourth selection was running back
Deshawn Jones (Olympia Fields, IL/Rich Central), who earned first-team All-GLVC honors and is coming off a record-breaking season at MissourI S&T.
Curtis played both at linebacker and as an edge pass rusher this season and recorded 36 tackles from that spot with two quarterback sacks, helping him land a spot on the All-GLVC team as an honorable mention pick. He is majoring in aerospace and mechanical engineering at S&T.
Compton, a second-team All-GLVC selection for the third consecutive year, earned his second spot on the academic all-district team after finishing as S&T's second-leading tackler with 78 on the year. An aerospace and mechanical engineering major at Missouri S&T, Compton also finished fifth in the GLVC with 16 tackles for a loss, the second straight year that he has recorded at least 15 stops behind the line of scrimmage.
Brooks also earned a spot on the academic all-district squad for the second time following a year in which he earned second-team All-GLVC honors in the secondary. Brooks, a petroleum engineering major at S&T, made 68 tackles from his safety position and was one of three Miners to record at least 10 pass breakups during the season.
Jones, who is majoring in biological sciences at Missouri S&T, led the GLVC in rushing with a school record 1,579 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, was a unanimous pick to the first team following a year in which his rushing total also ranked third in NCAA Division II. Jones set the school and league's single-game rushing record as well when he ran for 275 yards in a win over Saint Francis (Ill.) and became the first player in GLVC history to rush for 100 or more yards against every conference team during a season.
Missouri S&T finished the 2017 season with a 7-4 record and in a tie for second place in the GLVC with a 5-2 mark.
