ROLLA, Mo. -- After seeing its season-opening winning streak end at six games on Saturday, Missouri S&T will look to get a new streak started Wednesday as it steps outside of Great Lakes Valley Conference play to host Robert Morris-Peoria here at Billy Key Court. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
The Miners dropped a 91-74 decision to Missouri-St. Louis to fall to 6-1 on the year and will look to get back on the winning track in their final non-conference home game of the year against an Eagle team seeking to snap a six-game losing streak.
Despite scoring a season-low in points against UMSL, the Miners still rank 12th in NCAA Division II with an average of 92.1 points per game. They are led in scoring by
Jalen Myers (Shorewood, IL/Minooka), who is hitting 49 percent of his attempts from three-point range -- with a team-high 23 three-point baskets -- as he is scoring 16.9 points per game.
Myers is one of five Miners averaging in double figures heading into Wednesday's contest, as
Telloy Simon (Kitchener, Ont./St. Mary's) is scoring 13.1 points a game and
Rokas Paulauskas (Talsiai, Lithuania/Hamilton Heights Acad.) is at 12.4 per contest with a team-leading eight rebounds per game. The other Miners in double figures are
Randy Holmes (St. Louis, MO/Soldan International Studies) at 10.8 points per game and
Juwan Miller (Kitchener, Ont./Huron Heights), who is scoring 10.3 per outing.
Miller also leads the Miners in both assists with 38 and steals with 10; his 38 assists rank third in the GLVC.
Robert Morris-Peoria brings a 1-6 record into Wednesday's game and has lost six in a row since winning its season opener over Robert Morris-Springfield. The Eagles have not played since losing 87-82 to Iowa Wesleyan on Nov. 26 in Peoria.
Reggie Davis leads three Eagles that are averaging in double figures with a mark of 12.2 points per game, while Jake Stephens and Jamor Stewart are both averaging 12 per contest. Stephens is the Eagles' top three-point shooter with 11 three-pointers at a clip of 47.8 percent on the season.
Markus Johnson is the top rebounder for the Eagles with 7.4 per game, while Stephens also leads the way in assists with nine.
The Miners, who will return to GLVC play Saturday at Drury, are the second GLVC team that Robert Morris-Peoria has faced this season. The Eagles lost 102-64 at Missouri-St. Louis in the opening week of the season.
