Women’s Soccer looks to build momentum

Rolla, Mo. – After snapping its five game losing streak on Sunday, the Missouri S&T Lady Miners look to build some momentum in the final month of the regular season on the road against McKendree and Illinois Springfield this weekend. The Lady Miners travel to Lebanon, Ill., on Friday to take on the Bearcats at 5 p.m. and conclude the weekend in Springfield, Ill., on Sunday against the Prairie Stars starting at 12 p.m.

S&T (2-6, 2-5 GLVC) has played five games decided by a goal and has gone 2-3 in those contests. The offense has picked up scoring 11 goals through eight games after only scoring three during the same stretch in 2015 and has scored in six of the eight contests.

Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) leads the team in scoring with three goals and six points while Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) has tallied two goals and Anna Fink (Fulton, Mo./Fulton) has a goal and two assists for four points each. It's been a balanced offensive output with eight different players scoring.

Karen Nightingale (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) is coming off her first shutout of the season making five saves in the win over the Saints. She has played every minute in goal, making 39 saves and has lowered her goals against average to 2.23.

McKendree enters play this week with a record of 7-3, 5-3 GLVC and plays a non-conference match against Lindenwood-Belleville on Tuesday evening. The Bearcats had their three game winning streak snapped in a 3-0 loss at Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday.

McKendree has outscored its opponents 22-8 on the season and is averaging 2.2 goals per contest led by Sydnee Carroll with eight goals and three assists while Rachel Kaltwasser has scored three goals and assisted on two others and Chelsea Whittaker has tallied two goals and five assists. Zoe Brochu has played a majority of the minutes in goal making 47 saves, has a goals against average of 0.86 and has posted four shutouts.

Illinois Springfield enters Friday's match against Drury with a record of 6-5, 3-5 in conference play and has lost five of its last seven overall. Last weekend the Prairie Stars split a pair of road matches defeating Wisconsin-Parkside 1-0 before falling at Lewis 3-1.

The Stars have outscored their opposition by a 17-10 margin and are averaging 1.55 goals per game. Macy Martin leads the team in scoring with five goals while Maggie Juhlin has tallied three goals. Emily Matsen, Karisa Rogers and Alena Eitenmiller have scored two goals each. Courtney Johnson has played nearly 900 minutes in goal making 42 saves and has posted three shutouts with a goals against average of 0.91.
