Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miner volleyball squad returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend starting a four-match road trip. The Miners (8-13, 3-6 GLVC) begin the second half of conference play with visits to Quincy on Friday and Truman State on Saturday.
S&T looks to build momentum for the stretch run after going 2-1 last weekend at the ninth annual Midwest Region Crossover. The Miners swept past Alderson Broaddus and split a pair of five set matches against Tiffin and Ashland. S&T is currently 10
th in the conference standings and is three matches behind Indianapolis and Wisconsin-Parkside for the final spot in the conference tournament.
The Miners have seen its attack percentage rise to .184 and is averaging 12.7 kills per set but is allowing its opposition to hit nearly 21 percent and allowing 12.9 kills/set.
Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) leads four Miner players averaging over 2.00 kills per set with her 2.86.
Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) is averaging 2.62 kills/set,
Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) is at 2.45 per set and
Caroline Dykes (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) is at 2.07 per set while
Kyley Thompson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) is averaging 1.99 per set.
Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) is distributing close to 10 assists per set and
Corinne Stulce (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne) is averaging 4.43 digs per set.
Quincy is 11-10 on the season, 5-4 in the GLVC heading into Friday's contest at Pepsi Arena. The Hawks dropped two of three matches at the Crossover last weekend defeating Trevecca Nazarene in five sets and losing to Michigan Tech in five and Ferris State in four.
Quincy has a team hitting percentage of .186 and is averaging 12.6 kills per set and has also allowed its opposition to hit .186 percent with an average of 12.5 kills per set. The Hawks are averaging 1.8 blocks per set and have averaged 17.5 digs per set.
Taylor McMonagle and Bekah Raebel lead the Quincy attack averaging 3.19 and 2.63 kills per set respectively. Miranda Rodriguez and Sara Rathburn are the primary setters for the team handing out 7.76 and 7.66 assists per set. Rachel Shores is the leader on the defensive side of the ball with 4.73 digs per set while McMonagle is averaging close to 3.5 digs per set.
Truman State is 8-13 on the season heading into Friday's contest with Drury but are 6-3 in GLVC play. The Bulldogs also went 1-2 last weekend at the Crossover getting swept by Ferris State and Hillsdale and defeating Lake Erie in five sets.
Truman has struggled offensively hitting just .179 percent as a team while averaging just over 12 kills per set. The Bulldogs have been strong on the defensive side of the ball though averaging over two blocks per set and 18 digs per set.
Kayla Bastian and Claire Viviano lead the squad with 2.86 and 2.53 kills per set respectively. Savvy Hughes is dishing out an average of 7.14 assists per set while Lauren Wacker and Bastian are averaging 4.12 and 3.97 digs per set respectively.
