Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) finished with a double-double on Tuesday night recording 16 kills and 20 digs but it wasn't enough as the Missouri S&T Miners fell at sixth ranked Central Missouri
3-1 (19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 12-25) on Tuesday evening at the UCM Multi-Purpose Building.
S&T (6-3) fell behind 9-4 in the opening set before scoring the next five points to even the frame on back-to-back blocks from
Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood). The two sides then traded points and were tied at 13-13 when the Jennies (9-1) went on an 11-3 run to take control of the opening set. The Miners staved off three match points before a kill from Maddie Jones ended the frame.
S&T got off to a good start in the second set racing out to a 15-9 advantage halfway through. It continued to hold off the Jens with an 18-16 lead before they used an 8-1 run to get to set point at 24-19.
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) got the Miners to within four but UCM took the frame on a kill from Kylie Hohlen to take the 2-0 match lead.
S&T trailed for a majority of the third set but a late run allowed them to overtake the Jennies thanks to an 8-1 run of its own. Combs had a pair of kills in that run and Haslag ended the frame with a kill to cut the Jens lead in half.
The fourth set was all Central Missouri as it raced out to an early six point lead and wouldn't look back on its way to a 13-point win. The Jennies had 14 kills against two errors in the fourth set while S&T was held to six kills against seven errors.
The Miners finished the match registering 37 kills and hit a season low .097 percent. Combs was the lone player in double figures while Haslag and
Claire Luther (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) had five kills apiece.
Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) finished with 33 assists while
Jackie Pyles (White Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) had 24 digs.
UCM was led by Carly Sojka with 27 kills while Jones added 13. The Jens hit .199 percent for the match. Kourtney Thompson dished out 47 assists while Annie Reilly had 22 digs.
S&T opens Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday traveling to Somers, Wis., to take on Wisconsin-Parkside at 7 p.m.
