ROLLA, Mo. – After picking up a pair of non-conference home wins over Lincoln on Tuesday the Missouri S&T Lady Miners head back out on the road this weekend with a trip to St. Louis. The Lady Miners will take on the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon and then conclude the trip with a doubleheader at Maryville on Sunday.
S&T (5-22, 2-16 GLVC) will have a great opportunity in front of them on Saturday when it takes on the third ranked Tritons (31-3, 16-2 GLVC) who've won 13 straight. UMSL is the highest of the four ranked teams that the Lady Miners have played this season. The other ranked teams were Indianapolis (#10), Southern Indiana (#16) and Winona State (#22).
Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) continues to lead S&T in hitting with a .397 average while
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) is the team leader in home runs with four and
Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) has driven in a team best 17 runs batted in. The Lady Miners have four players hitting over .300 on the season.
Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) has won three of her past four starts allowing seven runs, five earned, on 22 hits with 11 strikeouts against 10 walks. She pitched back-to-back complete game wins against Drury and William Jewell last week.
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) snapped her 10-game losing streak with a complete game
2-1 victory over Lincoln on Tuesday.
The Tritons have been an offensive power this year with a team batting average of .337, have hit 82 home runs and are averaging 9.2 runs per contest. They've got seven players hitting over .300 with Brianna Butler leading the way with a .423 average while Alex Stupek is hitting .400. Butler and Stupek also lead the team in home runs with 15 each.
UMSL also has one of the top pitching staffs in the GLVC led by Hannah Perryman with a 17-2 record and a 1.72 earned run average while Brittany Chapman is 14-1 with a 2.29 ERA. The two have combined to throw 18 complete games and nine shutouts this season while striking out 268 hitters and issuing just 25 walks.
Maryville heads into Saturday's doubleheader against Drury with a record of 10-23, 6-12 in the GLVC. The Saints have lost nine of their last 12 overall, but did sweep a doubleheader at Quincy last Friday.
Maryville is hitting .263 as a team and is averaging 4.5 runs per contest. Nicole Taylor leads the Saints hitting with a .394 average while Ashley Marks and Danielle Williams are hitting .338 and .321 respectively. Marks, Wendy Macias and Krystal Rock have hit four home runs apiece to lead the team. Marks and Williams have also driven in 17 runs each.
In the circle Maryville is led by Macias with a 6-9 mark and an ERA of 2.59. She's tossed eight complete games with four shutouts and has struck out 73 batters against 28 walks.
