ROLLA, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball squad looks to end its 2015 campaign on a high note as they head up north this weekend. S&T was supposed to play at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon, but due to the weather forecast that doubleheader has been shifted to Monday at 11 a.m. The Lady Miners will still face Lewis on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m.
S&T (9-26, 6-20 GLVC) looks to capitalize on its 3-1 mark at home this past weekend while the Lewis Flyers (21-20, 11-13 GLVC) are battling for the eighth and final spot in the GLVC tournament along with William Jewell. The Lady Miners will look to play spoiler on Sunday afternoon as they try to end the Flyers run of 30 consecutive trips to the conference tournament.
S&T continues to be led offensively by the duo of
Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) and
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) who are hitting .390 and .381 respectively. Michaelis leads the ball club in doubles (8), home runs (5), stolen bases (13) and runs batted in (19). The Lady Miners have players in their lineup hitting over .300 for the season.
Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) has driven in 17 runs while
Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) has brought in 12 runs while
Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) has 11 RBIs.
Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) continues to lead the way in the circle for the pitching staff with a record of 5-6 and has an earned run average of 2.76. She has tossed four complete games this season and has one shutout.
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) leads the club in appearances with 26 and has started 16 games going 4-15 with a 4.61 ERA. However, in her last eight appearances she's gone 3-3 with a 2.69 ERA and two saves.
Lewis dropped three of four in Kansas City this past weekend losing a 1-0 decision to Rockurst, then defeated the Hawks 4-1 in the nightcap. On Monday the Flyers were swept in a doubleheader at William Jewell 6-4 and 8-7.
Carly Jaworski and Kelsey Ullrich are the only two hitters in the Lewis lineup that are hitting above .300. Jaworski leads the club in hits (49), home runs (6) and runs batted in 27 and is tied for third in doubles with four. Ullrich is tied with Jaworski for the team lead in home runs with six and is second with 22 runs batted in.
Kelly Bowler leads the team with a 13-12 record and has an earned run average of 2.43. She's thrown 19 complete games and has three shutouts to her credit. Opponents are hitting just .222 against her in 155.1 innings pitched. Lainie Schweickert is 8-8 on the year with 3.84 ERA in 21 appearances.
On Monday the Lady Miners will head up to Wisconsin to take on the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside who enter the weekend with a mark of 7-32, 2-22 in the GLVC. The Rangers snapped an eight-game losing streak on Monday taking the opener of a doubleheader against Rockhurst 4-3. The Hawks took the nightcap 8-4.
UW-Parkside is hitting just .243 as a team, but has three players hitting above .300 led by Courtney Ellingson with a .357 average. Ellingson has driven in a team-high 20 runs while hitting seven doubles and five home runs. Carly Dundee is tied with Ellingson for the team lead in home runs with five and has 16 RBIs.
In the circle the Rangers are led by Ellingson and Dundee who have combined to go 7-29 with 42 appearances and 32 starts. The duo has combined for 18 complete games with a shutout in over 200 innings pitched.
