ROLLA, Mo. – Due to the weather forecasts the Missouri S&T softball team has altered its schedule for this weekend. S&T will square off against McKendree on Friday now beginning at 1 p.m. and will take on Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
S&T will host its annual "Pink Game" with the players pink jerseys being auctioned off in a silent auction during the game against Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Miners will also be honoring their seniors after the doubleheader against the Prairie Stars.
S&T enters Friday's contest against the Bearcats with a 6-25 record and are 3-19 in the GLVC after splitting its doubleheader at Maryville this past Sunday. As a team the Lady Miners have .280 batting average and have hit 14 home runs on the year.
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) leads the offensive charge with a .367 average and has five home runs, seven doubles and 17 runs batted in.
Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) is hitting .355 while
Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) and
Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) are hitting .325 and .323 respectively.
Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) continues to lead S&T in the circle with a 4-6 record and an earned run average of 2.84. She's allowed 38 runs, 28 earned, on 74 hits with 17 strikeouts against 30 walks in 69.0 innings pitched. She's tossed four complete games and has one shutout on the season.
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) continues to lead the team in appearances with 22 and has started 15 games. She's thrown a team-high 87.1 innings and earned her first collegiate save last Sunday at Maryville.
McKendree comes into Wednesday's action at Lindenwood with a record of 14-24, 6-16 GLVC. The Bearcats are currently in the midst of a 10-game road trip and have started the trip 0-4 getting swept at Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's this past weekend. Offensively, McKendree has a team batting average of .265 and is averaging 3.87 runs per game. Four players are batting over .300 on the season led by Katie Nauman with a .337 average. Nauman is tied for the team lead in home runs along with Hanna Branch with three. Erica Johnson leads the team in RBIs with 25 while Kate Mayes has driven in 20 runs.
Kelsie Stoszkus leads the Bearcats in the circle with a 7-5 record and has a 3.99 ERA. She has three shutouts on the season and three complete games in 66.2 innings of work. Brooke Gajewski is 4-7 on the year while Susan Goetze is 3-8.
Illinois Springfield is also in the midst of a 10-game road swing and are currently 4-2. The Prairie Stars will travel to Drury on Friday to take on the Panthers in a GLVC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. UIS is 27-16 overall, 12-10 in the GLVC and currently tied for sixth in the conference standings along with Rockhurst.
The Prairie Stars are hitting just .252 as a team, but have outscored their opponents by 41 runs. Ashli King is the lone player with an average of above .300 hitting .345 while Rachel Goff and Jordyn Amos are batting .287 and .284 respectively. King also leads the team in home runs with six and RBIs with 27.
In the circle UIS is led by Taylor Bowlby with a mark of 17-6 and an ERA of 2.15. She's tied for the team lead in appearances and starts. She's tossed 11 complete games this season and has thrown five shutouts. Bowlby threw a one-hit shutout in the Stars 1-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis on March 16 and then threw a four hit shutout in the win at Indianapolis this past Sunday. Alexandria Smith has also seen a lot of duty in the circle this year going 10-9 with 3.39 ERA and has tossed a team best 14 complete games.
