AUSTIN, Texas – Missouri S&T got a strong pitching performance from

The Miners took the lead in the opening inning of the nightcap when Bodenstab reached on a bunt single, moved to second on a hit by Brown, then took third on a throwing error and came in to score on a ground ball off the bat of
Lance Portwood (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Santa Fe).
St. Edward's tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the frame, then scored twice in the second on a pair of RBI groundouts after a leadoff single and a double by Jonathan Davis started the inning.
S&T got a run back in the third when Portwood doubled in Brown, who had singled with one out and stole second, but the Hilltoppers answered that run with another in the bottom half on a two-out infield single by Mayo.
The Miners scored again in the fourth when Johnson opened the inning with a walk, stole second and scored on
Nick Ulrich (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney)'s double into the gap, before St. Edward's scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-3 lead.
S&T closed to within 6-4 in the eighth after Portwood reached on an infield hit with two outs and came into score on a throwing error, then got the tying run to the plate in the ninth before a double play ended the contest.
