Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miners capped a perfect season at home with a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21) win over Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. It's the first time in the history of the program that a Miner team has gone unbeaten at home.

S&T (19-8, 10-3 GLVC) used a 13-3 run midway through the opening set to bust open a close contest. Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) and Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) teamed up for five kills while Dana Shannon (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) added back-to-back service aces. The Screaming Eagles (17-9, 6-7 GLVC) cut the deficit to six a couple of times but the Miners held off a late charge to take the opener 25-17. Combs had four kills in the opener while Haslag and Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) had three each.

In the second frame USI flew out of the gates taking an early six point lead before S&T began to chip away eventually tying the set at 14 on a kill from Friedlund. The Screaming Eagles regained the lead and pushed it to 21-18 thanks to a pair of kills and an assisted block from Abby Winter. The Miners countered with a 4-1 run to even the set at 22 and forced Southern Indiana to take its final timeout. After the timeout the Screaming Eagles scored the final three points of the set to take it 25-22.

S&T led for a majority of the swing set eventually pulling away late with a 7-0 run that broke a 15-all tie. The Eagles cut the deficit to six on a couple of occasions but wouldn't get any closer than that as the Miners took the set 25-18. Friedlund and Combs combined for 11 of the team's 14 kills in the frame.

S&T gave up four of the first five points in the fourth set before going on a 15-3 run to take control of the match. Friedlund and Haslag combined for eight of the team's 16 kills in the set as the Miners built an eight point lead. USI cut the deficit to 22-20 after a service error by Caitlin Brocker (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central ), but S&T didn't yield scoring three of the final four points to take the set 25-21.
