Indianapolis, Ind. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a
3-1 decision at Indianapolis on Friday evening with all four goals in the contest being scored in the second half.
The Greyhounds (3-8-4, 2-7-4 GLVC) controlled play for a majority of the opening 45 minutes taking eight shots and putting five of those on goal.
Carrie Levy (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge ) made five saves including a breakaway chance midway through the half. S&T (1-12-2, 0-11-2 GLVC) took four shots and put two on goal.
UIndy broke the scoreless draw in the 53
rd minute on a goal from Sierra Singer from Jocelyn Evans for her third goal of the season. The 'Hounds added to their lead 15 minutes as Evans scored an unassisted goal for her second of the season.
The Lady Miners cut the lead in half in the 71
st minute on
Johanna Jeffryes (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) first of the season off a corner kick from
Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ). S&T had a chance to tie the game eight minutes later but
Taylor Vollmer (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West)'s shot was saved by Emma Crenshaw and then Fitzpatrick had another corner kick with 9:50 left.
Indianapolis added an insurance goal in the 86
th minute as Stephanie Burdsall scored her fourth of the season.
The Greyhounds finished the contest with a 17-7 edge in shots, 9-5 in shots on goal. The Lady Miners recorded four corner kicks to three for UIndy.
Suzy DeWael (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon High School) led S&T with two shots, one on goal. Vollmer, Jeffryes,
Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley ) and
Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had a shot on goal apiece. Levy finished the contest making six saves.
The Lady Miners are back in action on Sunday afternoon taking on Saint Joseph's College at 12 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind.
