Lady Miners rally comes up short against Lewis

Rolla, Mo. -- The Missouri S&T Lady Miners comeback attempt from a two goal deficit came up short in a 3-1 loss to Lewis on Friday night at the S&T Soccer Field. S&T (1-11-1, 0-10-1 GLVC) scored 2:32 into the second half to cut the deficit to a goal but the Flyers (8-4-2, 6-3-2 GLVC) added an insurance goal in the 88th minute.

Lewis broke on top with a goal in the seventh minute as Julie Gunnerson headed it in off a blocked shot on an assist from Mackenzie Fuller. The Flyers added to their lead in the 20th minute when Meg Carmody punched in a loose ball in front of the goal and into an open net.

Lewis finished the frame outshooting S&T 9-2, 4-0 in shots on goal.

S&T came out of the locker room the aggressors as Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas)'s shot from outside the box was blocked but it fell to Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley ) who hammered it home from 25 yards for her first of the season with an assist from Bride.

The Lady Miners had kept pushing looking for the equalizer and had some chances but were unable to put anything into the back of the net.

The Flyers added to their lead with less than three minutes to play when Elena Cukurs redirected a cross in front from Maggie Moran pushing the margin back to two.

Lewis finished with a 15-11 edge in shots, 6-3 in shots on goal but S&T outshot the Flyers 9-6 in the second half and 3-2 in shots on goal. Lewis also held a 4-3 edge in corner kickers.

The Lady Miners conclude their four match homestand on Sunday with a game against Wisconsin-Parkside beginning at 12 p.m.
