Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T volleyball squad ran its win streak to five straight and six of its last seven with a 3-0 sweep over William Jewell (25-20, 25-13, 25-20) on Friday night. S&T moved into a second place tie in the division with Rockhurst after it was defeated at Drury 3-1 on Friday evening.

The Miners (7-5, 4-1 GLVC) got off to slow start and trailed 9-6 early on. They regrouped going on a 7-2 run to regain their first lead since it was 2-0. The Cardinals (2-9, 1-4 GLVC) wouldn't go quietly as they regained a 15-14 edge on a block by Libby Ording.

S&T answered on the next point as Allie Plunk (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) recorded a kill to spark a 4-0 run and give the Miners a lead they wouldn't relinquish. That lead grew to 21-17, but William Jewell countered with three straight points to close within one and force S&T to take a timeout. After the timeout, however, the Miners served it out with three kills and a service ace to win the opener.

The second set began a lot like the first one with the Cardinals getting out to an early lead, but S&T quickly responded with six straight points to grab the lead. The Miners then began to pull away thanks to 14-5 run to build an 11-point lead and cruise to the set victory 25-13.

In set three S&T built a six-point lead only to see William Jewell trim it to 19-18 on a kill from Kaylee Marquardt. Just like the first set though the Miners were able to close it out scoring six of the last eight points to earn their fourth straight sweep and set a new school record with 13 consecutive sets won breaking the previous record of 12 set back in 2012.

S&T finished the contest registering 44 kills against 11 errors in 110 chances to hit .300 percent. Alison Mueller (Bartelso, Ill./Mater Dei ) led the charge with 11 kills while Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) added nine kills, Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) finished with eight kills and Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) contributed seven kills. Plunk dished out 30 assists while Jackie Pyles (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) had a match-high 17 digs.

The Cardinals had 36 kills for the match but committed 16 errors in 109 chances to finish with a hitting percentage of .183. Marquardt led William Jewell with 11 kills while Christina Pratt had nine kills. Amy Lindhorst distributed 29 assists and Marquardt had 11 digs.

The Miners are back in action on Saturday afternoon hosting Rockhurst University in a 3 p.m., contest at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
