Lady Miners return home to face Pumas and Greyhounds

(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T women's soccer returns home this weekend looking to get into the win column when it hosts Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis this weekend.

The Lady Miners, 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the GLVC, play Saint Joseph's on Friday night at 5 p.m., and then will host the Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.

S&T went 0-3 last week which included a pair of losses by a goal. They lost their home opener against Lindenwood last Tuesday 2-1 in overtime, but led for a majority of the match until a late goal tied the contest. On Friday, the Lady Miners opened GLVC play at Wisconsin-Parkside losing 7-0. On Sunday S&T got off to a good start at Lewis with Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) scoring 1:33 into the game to give the Lady Miners a lead. The Flyers tied the game in the 19th minute and it remained tied until the 64th minute when Lewis knocked in a free kick from the top of the penalty area. S&T had a couple of chances to tie it immediately after, but Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had a shot blocked and another cleared off the line by a Flyer defender.

Lewis added to its lead with a goal in the 83rd minute, but the Lady Miners continued to fight cutting the deficit back to one in the 88th minute. Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) headed home a free kick from Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ) for her first goal of the year.

Saint Joseph's, like S&T, is still looking for its first win of the season. The Pumas (0-3-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) dropped their first three contests of the season before playing a scoreless double overtime draw against William Jewell this past Sunday. Saint Joseph's has been outscored 11-2 this season. Calleight Olson and Megan Gramhofer have scored the goals for the Pumas.
They along with Kate Hickner have combined to take 27 of the team's 50 shots and have put 18 of those on goal. Melissa Kuhar has played a majority of the minutes in goal and has a goals against average of 2.53.

Indianapolis enters play this weekend with a record of 1-2-1 after opening conference action with a 2-2 tie against William Jewell last Friday and then were defeated 1-0 by Rockhurst on Sunday. The Greyhounds will play at Drury on Friday evening before making the trek to Rolla on Sunday. For the season the 'Hounds have been outscored 6-5 and outshot 79-56.
Indianapolis has had five different players tally a goal through its first four games with Kacey Wells the leading scorer with a goal and an assist for three points. Jocelyn Evans, Katie Johnston, Elizabeth Behrends and Lindsay Adams are the other players to record a goal. Megan Fee has seen all the time in goal making 36 saves and has a goals against average of 1.42.
