ROLLA, Mo. – Four members of Missouri S&T's football team have received pre-season recognition as part of teams announced by USA College Football and Beyond Sports Network for the upcoming 2014 season.
USA College Football named three Miners to its pre-season All-America squad, all as second-team selections. Offensive lineman
Forrestal Hickman (Holton, Kan./Holton HS), wide receiver
Melvin Stovall (Los Angeles, Calif./Lancaster) and defensive end
Dan Mauszycki (Gardner, Kan./Gardner-Edgerton HS) were chosen to that squad, while Beyond College Sports named Hickman and defensive back
Will Brown (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) to its Great Lakes Valley Conference pre-season all-conference squad.
Hickman earned second-team All-GLVC honors a year ago after being selected to the first team in 2012 and helped pace a Miner running game that averaged 153.6 yards per game last fall. Stovall recorded the highest number of catches for a first-year receiver in the Miner program last season, hauling in 66 passes for 712 yards and five touchdowns to also earn second-team All-GLVC laurels.
Mauszycki, who was also a second-team All-GLVC pick, led the Miners with six quarterback sacks and 13 tackles for a loss from his defensive end position, while also recovering two fumbles and making 36 tackles on the season. Brown earned first-team All-GLVC honors after leading the league with 22 pass breakups; he also had an interception and 42 tackles for the year.
The Miners, who finished the 2013 season at 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the GLVC – tying Saint Joseph's and Truman State for second place – will report August 13 for the start of practice for the upcoming season. S&T opens its 2014 schedule Sept. 6 at Chadron State.
