Box Score BOLIVAR, Mo. – Missouri S&T's final venture outside of the Great Lakes Valley Conference was a successful one, as it used two big innings to down Southwest Baptist 7-4 Wednesday afternoon.

After falling behind 2-0, the Miners posted a four-run fifth inning and added three more in the seventh to win for the second straight time and complete a perfect season against teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

SBU scored in the opening inning when Bo Helsel blooped a double down the line in right to score Christian Binger, then reached on an fielder's choice in the third to again score Binger.

The Miners – who were held without a hit for the first four innings by SBU starter Chance Wolfe – got a leadoff double from Trevor Karbowski (Standish, Mich./Sterling Central) to open the fifth.  After he was sacrificed to third, Clint Wobbe (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) drew a walk with two outs and Brett Yasui (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamahameha) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Reed Brown (Rogers, Ark./Heritage) followed by doubling down the line in left to score Karbowski and Wobbe to tie the game, then Tyler Bodenstab (Independence, Mo./Truman) reached on an error by second baseman Landon Young, allowing Yasui to cross the plate with the gp-ahead run.

Moments later, the Miners executed a successful double steal that scored Brown with the fourth run of the inning.

Another leadoff double, this one by Wobbe, got the Miners started in the seventh.  He came in to score on a one-out hit by Brown, then Bodenstab doubled into the gap in left center to bring home Brown.  Following a pitching change, Michael Lockett (O'Fallon, Mo./Timberland) hit a sacrifice fly to score Bodenstab after he stole third.

The Bearcats (19-17) cut into the Miner lead in the bottom of the seventh when Young and Binger hit back-to-back homers with an out-blowing breeze, but Tom Laudadio (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) fanned SBU's home run leader, Spencer Blacksher, to end the inning and set the Bearcats down in order in the eighth.

John Auble (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) took over in the ninth and also posted a perfect inning with two strikeouts to record his first career save.

Ryan Bearden (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood), who took over on the mound in the third after the starter Brown had walked the leadoff hitter, threw four scoreless innings to earn the victory.  He allowed three hits in that span, one of which was erased by a double play.

Brown had two of the Miners' five hits, all of which came in the two scoring frames.

The Miners (14-18) return to GLVC play Saturday when it faces Rockhurst in a noon doubleheader at the S&T Baseball Field.
