Lady Miners blanked at Truman on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Kirksville, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were blanked by identical scores of 8-0 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon in Kirksville. S&T managed just nine hits in the doubleheader while leaving 10 runners on base. It was a pair of big innings in both games for Truman State that did in the Lady Miners.

S&T (5-18, 2-10 GLVC) got a pair of singles in the first inning of the opening game, but were unable to get the big hit leaving two runners on base. The Bulldogs (22-5, 14-2 GLVC) scored in the home half of the first. Danielle Lewellen led off with a single, stole second and scored on Andrea Klipsch single back up the middle.

Truman added another run in the third before breaking the game open with a five-run fourth. They scored five runs on seven hits in the decisive inning. Klipsch and Cate Simon each had a two-run double. The Bulldogs ended the game in the sixth when Lewellen singled home Alexis VanNostrand with the bases loaded.

Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) had two of the Lady Miners six hits in the opener. Bethany Rader (Memphis, Mo./Scotland County ) got the start allowing five runs on nine hits in three innings of work. She struck out two and issued two free passes.

In the nightcap Truman took advantage of three S&T errors and two walks to score four times while registering just one hit. The Bulldogs added another in the second, two more in the fifth and one in the sixth for the final margin.

Michaelis, Adrienne Kruse (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and Dana Lawson (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) were the only ones to record hits for the Lady Miners in the second contest. Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) suffered the loss allowing four unearned runs on just one hit in 0.2 of an inning. She walked one and didn't record a strikeout.

S&T is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Quincy, Ill., to take on the Hawks of Quincy University in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
