Box Score 2 (Jackson, Tenn.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball team dropped a pair of games at Union University on Wednesday afternoon in Jackson, Tenn. They dropped the opener
7-4 and then came up short in the nightcap falling
4-3. S&T was only able to muster 10 hits and left 12 runners on base in the doubleheader.
In the opener the Lady Miners (5-16) scored first for the third consecutive game with a run in the first inning.
Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) led the game with a double to right center and advanced to third on an error by the first baseman. She scored on a double steal attempt on a throwing error by the catcher.
Union (19-14) scored twice each in the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead. Alex Williams had a two-run single in the second then Summer Cross and Cheyenne Mauldin added RBIs in the third.
S&T got a run back in the fourth on an RBI single from
Adrienne Kruse (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) that scored
Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) from second. It had the chance to tie the game with runners at second and third with one out, but couldn't get the key hit.
The Bulldogs answered with two more in the fourth on RBIs from Amanda Chandler and Cross. The Lady Miners got another run in the fifth on an RBI single from
Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield), but Union answered with a run in the bottom half to push the margin back to four.
S&T added another run in the sixth on an RBI single from Davis scoring Kruse.
Davis led the Lady Miner attack going 3-for-3 in the contest with an RBI and two runs scored.
Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) suffered the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits while walking three.
The second game was scoreless until the home half of the fifth when the Bulldogs scored four runs on five hits. Williams had the big blow hitting a three-run homer to left field. S&T battled back though in the sixth. With two outs and runners at second and third
Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) doubled to the gap in left center scoring
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) and
Victoria Culbertson (Nevada, Mo./Nevada).
Hannah Jokisch (De Soto, Kan./De Soto) came onto run for Fedorchak and advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored on
Dana Lawson (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette)'s single to left. That would be it as
Olivia Culbertson (Nevada, Mo./Nevada) flied out to end the inning then the Lady Miners were retired in order in the seventh.
S&T had five hits in game two and were led by Fedorchak who went 2-for-3.
Bethany Rader (Memphis, Mo./Scotland County ) took the loss allowing three runs on six hits while walking one in four innings.
The Lady Miners are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Kirksville, Mo., to take on the Truman State Bulldogs in a Great Lakes Valley Conference double dip beginning at 12 p.m.
