Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's bats were silenced for a better part of the afternoon Saturday as it dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the University of Indianapolis by scores of 10-0 and 6-1.

The Miners managed only 11 hits in 16 innings in the two games and scored just an unearned run that came home on a wild pitch as they fell to 2-2 on the season.  Saturday's game were the first of the season for the Greyhounds, a rival of S&T's in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, but the weekend series is not designated as part of conference play.

UIndy broke on top in the opening inning of both games, scoring four in the first of game one off S&T starter John Auble (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South).   The Greyhounds extended their lead when Zach Jacobs hit the first pitch of the fourth inning over the fence in left center, then tacked on a run in the fifth and four more in the seventh.

Auble, who took the loss on the hill, pitched into the fifth and was relieved by Mack Preston (Shawnee, Kan./Shawnee Mission Northwest) and John Costello (Eureka, Mo./Eureka).  UIndy outhit S&T 10-6, with Lance Portwood (Edmond, Okla./Edmond Santa Fe) getting two of the Miner hits.

In game two, the Greyhounds took the early lead again after Jake Weinzapfel opened the game by tripling and scoring on a fielder's choice.  S&T starter Eric Van Dyke (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek) shut down the Greyhounds over the next four innings, but ran into trouble after retiring the first two hitters in the sixth.

A two-out single by Dan Elipolos was followed by a triple off the bat of Jacobs to double the Uindy lead.  Alex Ritchie followed with a wind-blown double that made it 3-0.

S&T got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth as Brown led the inning off with a hit and moved to third on a hit by Portwood.  A passed ball allowed Brown to score, but the Miners stranded Portwood at second after he was there with one out.

The Greyhounds added three more runs in the seventh to pad the lead and complete the sweep.

Van Dyke scattered seven hits and fanned three in the six innings he worked.  The Miners were outhit 13-5 in the nightcap.

Missouri S&T will complete the three-game set with UIndy Sunday when the teams play a single game at noon.
