(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners hit the road for the final time in the regular season traveling to Kansas City this weekend for games against Rockhurst and William Jewell. The Lady Miners and Hawks will tip-off on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's contest with the Cardinals will start at 1 p.m.
This weekend's games have implications on the upcoming GLVC Tournament. Nine of the 12 spots have been secured with seven teams battling for the final three slots. S&T and William Jewell are currently tied for 10
th with a 5-10 mark while Wisconsin-Parkside, Saint Joseph's and Illinois Springfield are tied for 12
th with a 3-12 record. Rockhurst and McKendree are just a game back for that final spot sitting at 2-13.
A win on Thursday for the Lady Miners plus losses by Saint Joseph's and Illinois Springfield should secure a berth in the conference tournament for S&T.
The Lady Miners look to avenge an earlier loss to Rockhurst when the two clubs meet on Thursday. The Hawks defeated S&T 70-68 back on January 18 when Taylor Skala hit a jumper on the baseline with 5.4 seconds left.
Mia Wesley (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram)'s three-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark allowing the Hawks to earn their first ever win in Rolla.
Rockhurst shot 49 percent (24-for-49) from the field in the contest and went 16-of-18 at the foul line. They led by as many as 11 late in the first half, but S&T rallied to take a 10-point lead with 5:16 to play in the game. Mary Dineen led all scorers with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Kendall Hart with 16 points and Lauren Meyers contributed 12.
The Lady Miners shot 47 percent (23-for-49) from the field and went 14-of-18 at the foul line.
Kylie Cooper (Andover, Kan./Andover) finished with a double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Wesley scored 14 points while
Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) added 12.
Rockhurst enters Thursday's game with a record 7-16, 2-13 GLVC after snapping a seven-game losing streak last Saturday with a 79-61 win against McKendree at home. Dineen led the Hawks with 13 points while Allison Streich dropped in 10.
William Jewell will entertain Drury on Thursday night before playing host to S&T on Saturday. The Cardinals have dropped nine of their last 11 and are 10-13 overall, 5-10 in the GLVC. Chelsea Meeks leads the team in scoring with 17.1 ppg and is joined in double figures by Cassy Nicolay with 12.9 and Hayli Jo Smith with 10.7 points per contest. William Jewell suffered an 83-65 loss to Illinois Springfield at home last Saturday.
The Lady Miners rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to defeat the Cardinals 69-67 on January 16.
Karli Sample (St. Joseph, Mo./Benton) led S&T with 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor and was 5-for-6 at the foul line. Wesley and
Jaaron Kassanavoid (Lawson, Mo./Lawson) added 14 and 10 points respectively. Sample made two free throws with 0:08 left to give the Lady Miners the lead and then Wesley blocked Aerial Smith's layup attempt at the buzzer to secure the win.
