ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T will host the second of its three home swimming meets of the 2014-15 season Friday when it takes on Delta State at the S&T Pool in the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. The meet will begin at 6 p.m.
The first 100 Missouri S&T fans in attendance and members of the Miner Kids Club will receive free pizza from Papa John's beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Miners are in their fourth competition of the season and second at home; the Miners won a dual meet over Lewis on Oct. 17. S&T's last competition took place on Saturday, when it finished third at the Lindenwood Invitational.
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) won the 500-yard freestyle Saturday in 4:39.12 – the Miners' only event win at Lindenwood -- and has won that event in each of S&T's last two meets. The Miners also got a second place finish from
Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad) in the 50-yard freestyle and
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) in the 200-yard breaststroke, as well as from its 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kerc,
Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East),
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) and Glaser.
The Miners won seven events in the Oct. 17 home meet against Lewis.
Delta State is competing for the third time this season and first time against an NCAA Division II opponent, as its prior meets were at Alabama and Western Kentucky. It is the first meet for the Statesmen since Oct. 11.
DSU got a win in the 200-yard butterfly from Vlad Zinca at Alabama, where he posted a time of 1:52.23, as well as second place efforts from Patrice Wendel in the sprint freestyle events, as he went 21.44 in the 50-yard free and 47.20 in the 100-yard event. Wendel also posted a winning time of 46.56 in the 100 at Western Kentucky.
