S&T set to take on Quincy in GLVC Semifinals

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team is set to take on the Quincy Hawks in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament semifinals this Friday at 11 a.m. in Somers, Wis. For S&T this is its first trip to the semifinals while the Hawks are making their eighth trip to the semis in the last nine seasons.

The Lady Miners (9-9) advanced to the semifinal round with a 2-0 win at Bellarmine last Sunday getting a pair of goals from Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) while Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) matched her career-high with 11 saves in net. S&T has won seven of its last 10 games since the start of October.

The Lady Miners continue to be led in scoring by Hostler with her 10 goals. She moved into second place in the GLVC in goals scored and scoring with her two goals on Sunday. Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) has chipped in with four goals while Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) and Morgan Henry (Camdenton, Mo./Camdenton) have added two apiece.

Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) posted her seventh shutout of the season on Sunday to move into second all-time in school history in career shutouts. She also moved into sixth all-time in career saves passing Kesley Kurilla.

Quincy advanced to the semifinal round defeating Rockhurst in a shootout this past Sunday at Rockhurst. The RU Hawks scored the game's first goal in the 22nd minute and held that lead until 8:34 was left in the contest. The QU Hawks tied the game off a corner kick and sophomore defender Maddy Kuhlenberg sent in a high-arcing ball that crept inside the far post for the first goal of her career. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in either of the overtime periods and the game went to a shootout. In the shootout it was tied 2-2 heading into the third round. Natalie Kuhlenberg made her kick, but Rockhurst's Kinsley Fitzpatrick hit the post with hers and that turned out to be the difference. Quincy converted its last two tries to advance to the semis for the fifth straight year.

The Hawks (8-8-3) struggled down the stretch winning just two of their last 10 contests. They had a four match losing streak before snapping that with a 1-0 win over Truman on Oct. 29.

Quincy has scored 19 goals this season, but allowed only 16 goals. Ashley Burton, Mackenzie Rief and Haylye Markway have each scored four goals with Burton leading the team in scoring with 11 points. Rief has tallied nine points while Markway has eight.

Megan Swanson has played every minute in net for the Hawks recording a 0.81 goals against average, made 81 saves and has posted 10 shutouts.
