S&T takes on Bellarmine in GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team will make just the second postseason appearance in school history on Sunday when it takes on Bellarmine University in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament in Louisville, Ky. In their only other postseason appearance in 2010 the Lady Miners got an early goal but ultimately fell at Quincy 3-1.

The Knights, seeded second in the tournament, enter Sunday's contest unbeaten in their last 12 contests and had won six in a row before tying Southern Indiana 2-2 in the regular season finale this past Wednesday. Bellarmine (13-2-3, 11-1-3 GLVC) defeated S&T (8-9, 8-7 GLVC) back on Oct. 12 3-0 in Louisville. The Knights scored a pair of goals nearly four minutes apart midway through the first half and added the third one with less than two minutes to play in the contest.

Bellarmine outshot the Lady Miners 13-3 in that contest and had 10 shots on goal.

Prior to its two game losing streak S&T had won six of seven contests and scored 11 goals in those contests while allowing just five. Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) leads the Lady Miners in scoring this season with eight goals and two assists for a total of 18 points while Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) has tallied four goals and an assist. The duo has combined to score five of S&T's eight game winners this season.

The Knights come into the contest with the third-leading attack in the GLVC, as they're averaging 2.06 goals per game. Mary Beth Gorham is Bellarmine's leading scorer with 10 goals and an assist for 21 points while Katie Fernandez has tallied 17 points (8 goals, 1 assist).

Goalkeeper Hannah Poteet has started 16 games and has a goals against average of 0.78 and has posted seven shutouts.

The other first round contests Sunday in the GLVC Tournament will pit top seed Wisconsin-Parkside against eighth-seeded Lewis, No. 4 seed Truman State against fifth-seeded Drury and No. 3 seed Rockhurst against sixth-seeded Quincy.  The winner of Sunday's S&T-Bellarmine game will face the winner of the Rockhurst-Quincy contest Nov. 7 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
