Women’s Soccer look to clinch spot in GLVC Tournament

(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners potentially have a chance to clinch a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a win on Friday at William Jewell along with some help elsewhere in the league. S&T is looking to making its second postseason appearance in school history. The first one was in 2010.

The Lady Miners (7-7, 7-5 GLVC) currently sit in a sixth place tie with Quincy heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Friday's match at William Jewell will have playoff implications as the Cardinals (6-5-3, 5-5-2 GLVC) are eighth in the standings.

S&T has won five of its last six and seven of 10 heading into the 12 p.m. showdown at William Jewell on Friday afternoon. The Lady Miners got a pair of second half goals from Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) to rally from a halftime deficit to defeat Southern Indiana this past Sunday.

Hostler leads S&T in scoring with six goals and two assists for 14 points while Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) has scored four goals and assisted on another for nine points.

The Cardinals enter action this weekend having dropped four of their last six contests and were shutout at home in losses against Bellarmine and McKendree.

William Jewell has tallied 19 goals this season and has allowed 18. It's led in scoring by Jade Gifford with four goals and three assists for 11 points while Lea Maxwell and Aspen Hawkins have seven points apiece with two goals and three assists.

The Lady Miners return home on Sunday to close out the home portion of the regular season with a contest against Rockhurst at 12 p.m. Rockhurst is currently 11-2-2, 8-2-2 in the GLVC and are in a tie for third with Truman State. The Hawks will host Drury on Friday evening and then make the trek down to Rolla for Sunday's match.

Rockhurst had its eight match unbeaten streak snapped at home this past Sunday on a late goal in a 2-1 loss against Bellarmine. Taylor Skala, the school's career leader in goals scored, leads the Hawk attack with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. She leads the GLVC in goals and points.

Missouri S&T will honor its seniors prior to the start of Sunday's contest.
