ROLLA, Mo. – Posting the best time in every event Friday night, Missouri S&T's swimming team cruised to a
123-76 win over Truman State in its final home meet of the season at the S&T Pool.
The Miners put the best time on the board in all 11 events, five of them coming from freshman
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) and senior
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School). Glaser broke the facility record in his victory in the 200-yard freestyle, as he posted a time of 1:41.90 that broke Matt Hug's mark of 1:42.17. It was one of two wins for Glaser on the evening, as he also won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.47 seconds.
Goldfarb won three events Friday, taking the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:03.13, 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.21 and 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.73.
The Miners' other winning performances on an individual basis Friday came from
Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.86 seconds,
Nate Kamrath (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.13 seconds,
Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) in the 100-yard backstroke in 53.79 and
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) in the 100-yard breaststroke.
S&T's 200-yard medley relay team of
Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek),
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres), Kamrath and
Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) won that event in a time of 1:37.48, as did the 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Norris, Kerc, Glaser and Sponsler in a time of 1:26.33.
Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) finished second in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:21.06, as did Sponsler in the 200-freestyle in 1:47.08, Norris in the 50-freestyle in 22.23 seconds, Chavez in the 200-IM in 1:58.89 and
Chase Davis (Tulsa, Okla./Union) in the 100-butterfly in 54.54 seconds.
S&T also had seconds from Kerc in the 100-freestyle in 47.67 seconds and Layne in the 500-freestyle in 4:58.26, while
Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) had the second-best time in the 100-breaststroke of 1:00.16.
The Miners also got a second place showing from their second 200-medley relay team of
Chris Lohff (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove),
Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central), Davis and Glaser in 1:37.94 and the 200-freestyle group of Kamrath, Layne, Martinez and Lohff, as it posted a time of 1:30.55.
Davis had a third place showing in the 200-IM in 2:01.94, along with Lohff in the 100-butterfly in 55.11 seconds,
Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) in the 100-backstroke in 56.73 seconds, Martinez in the 500-freestyle in 4:58.67.
The Miners will compete in a double dual meet next Saturday at Missouri State University, a meet that will also include Lindenwood, in Springfield, Mo.
