Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped a four match losing streak against Bellarmine playing to a
1-1 double overtime draw on Friday evening at the S&T Soccer Field. The last time the two teams tied was Sept. 23, 2007 a scoreless draw also played in Rolla.
S&T (1-2-2, 1-2-2 GLVC) scored the first goal of the game at the 16:35 mark.
Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ) played a ball to
Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) who slid a pass through the defense to
Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy). Hostler then beat the goalkeeper sliding a shot under her arm to score her second of the season.
The Knights (3-3-2, 2-2-1 GLVC) tied the game in the 29
th minute off a goal from Dracy Egan. Chelsea McCarty played a pass along the top of the box to Egan who chipped a shot over
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) for her first of the season.
The Lady Miners had some chances in the final 15 minutes of the stanza to regain the lead but were denied by Erin Ottman. The best chance came in the 36
th minute.
Kelsey Salzman (Blue Springs, Mo./Notre Dame de Sion) got behind the Bellarmine defense and rifled a shot off the keeper. The ball rolled to
Nicole French (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) and she got a shot off that was blocked.
The game went into the break tied at 1-1 though S&T outshot the Knights 7-5 and had three on goal compared to two for Bellarmine.
The Knights dominated the action in the second 45 minutes, but the play of Deister in goal kept the game tied as she made five saves in the stanza.
Deister had to make a save in the first overtime and then in the second extra frame the Lady Miners had two golden opportunities to win the game. The first came with 2:13 left in the contest. S&T was awarded a free kick from about 25 yards away and
Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) nailed a shot that went just to the right of the goal.
Sammy Minea (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North ) had a chance as well nearly 0:30 later making a long run and then nailing a shot to the far side of the goal which was saved by Ottman.
Bellarmine finished the contest outshooting the Lady Miners 13-9 and 8-4 in shots on goal. The Knights recorded six corner kicks to three for S&T and were whistled for 16 fouls.
The Lady Miners return to action on Sunday on when they host McKendree beginning at 12 p.m.
