Box Score (Florence, Ala.) – The Missouri S&T Miner volleyball team used a hot hitting performance to sweep Christian Brothers
3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-14) on Friday afternoon in Florence, Ala. S&T had a season best attack percentage of .351 while committing a program low of five attack errors. The Miners (3-2) also recorded 10 team blocks in the contest.
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) and
Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) paced the S&T attack recording 11 and nine kills respectively.
Katie McDonald (Orland Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Allie Plunk (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) had six kills apiece. Plunk also dished out 25 assists while
Cydney Denning (San Antonio, Texas/Brandeis ) led the way with nine digs. Haslag finished the match with eight total blocks and McDonald chipped in with six.
The first set was the tightest of the match featuring five ties and three lead changes. S&T trailed 8-7 before going on a 6-1 run to take the lead for good at 13-9. Christian Brothers (2-4) would get as close as two, but no closer as the Miners pulled away down the stretch. S&T finished with an attack percentage of .382 recording 14 kills against one error in the opening set. The Miners were just as good defensively holding the Lady Bucs to .147 attack percentage (13k/8e/34ta).
S&T trailed early in the second set before using another run to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The Miners led by as many as four late in the set, but CBU ran off four straight to tie it at 23-all. Wright gave S&T the lead back on a kill to set up set point and then an error by the Lady Bucs gave the Miners the win. S&T hit .344 percent in the frame with 13 kills against just two errors.
The third set was all Miners as they scored the first four points of the stanza and wouldn't look back. They lead by as many as 11 points on two different occasions in the set. S&T hit .321 percent in the finale registering 11 kills against two errors.
