(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners will try and play spoiler on Wednesday night when it plays Drury in the season finale beginning at 6 p.m., at the Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield, Mo. The Lady Miners were eliminated from the race for the final spot in the conference tournament after last Friday's loss to Lewis, but S&T has the opportunity to spoil the Panthers chances of going to the NCAA Tournament.
Drury was ranked ninth in the first regional rankings released last Wednesday by the NCAA and has the chance to move up after picking up wins last weekend against Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis. The Panthers enter the match with a record of 9-5-3 overall, 7-4-3 in the GLVC and are currently seventh in the GLVC.
Drury has scored 24 goals this season and is led in scoring by Emily Cline with six goals and two assists for a total of 14 points. Mariah Gove has scored five goals for 10 points and Sarah Duffy has three goals and five assists for 11 points. Cline and Gove have combined to score five of the Panthers nine game-winning goals this season.
Wednesday's match-up will be the 15th all-time meeting between the Lady Miners and Drury with the Panthers holding an 8-3-3 advantage in the series. Since both teams joined the GLVC in 2005 the Panthers hold a 4-1-3 advantage with five of the eight games decided by a goal.
S&T is looking to finish its season on a high note and has been in nearly every game it has played this season with seven games decided by a goal. The Lady Miners have also played five double overtime games this year.
Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) continues to lead S&T in scoring with four goals and eight points.
Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ) and
Catherine Hawn (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) have four points apiece (1 goal, 2 assists.).
Kaitlyn Deister (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and
Madison Gibler (Kansas City, Mo./Staley) have shared time in goal this season.
