1/26/2013 5:35:00 PM

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Hot shooting by Maryville University on Saturday afternoon, particularly from three-point range, allowed the Saints to hand Missouri S&T a 78-57 loss in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Moloney Arena.

Maryville connected a season-high 14 times from beyond the arc and got three-pointers from eight different players as it sent S&T to its second straight loss on their current three-game road trip.

The Saints, who beat the Miners for the first time in six tries on their home floor, used their long range shooting to build a double figure lead in the early going.  Michael Jackson (Wichita, Kan./Wichita East)'s layup at the 18:23 mark gave the Miners a 4-3 lead, but Trae Pemberton, Asa Toney and Armon Provo all hit three-pointers over the next three-plus minutes as part of an 13-0 Maryville run that gave the Saints a 12-point lead.

Maryville would go eight-of-13 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes, including two more in an 11-0 run later in the half after S&T had the margin down to 10 after a free throw by Jackson with 5:23 to play.

The Miners shot 50 percent in the first half, but were also guilty of 12 turnovers that led to 20 Saint points in the period.  Maryville went 16-of-24 from the field in the opening half as it led 47-23 at the intermission.

For the game, the Miners finished at 51.4 percent from the field, but only took 35 shots for the game.  Maryville cooled off after the break, hitting only 35 percent in the final 20 minutes but still finished at 52.3 percent.

Nusrath Khan (Morton Grove, Ill./Maine East) matched his season high with 17 points to lead the Miners in scoring, while Jackson finished with 12 and added a team-high eight rebounds, as the Miners had a 28-19 advantage on the boards.

Provo, who did not start for the Saints (16-5, 6-3 GLVC) Saturday, led all scorers with 23 points.

The Miners, who fell to 1-8 in GLVC play and 5-11 overall, will wrap up their string of three straight road contests Thursday when they face Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo.  Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
